As a suggestion, retain the front sight - should for any reason your red dot go down before or during a run, you'll want something to fall back on.
Nice to see your Capa in person last night. Quite the overhaul compared to its previous incarnations. Last edited by Endymion; May 28th, 2008 at 09:54.. |

I liked the look of the gun as well, and I've also considered a similar build.
Now we just have to practice shooting using the raised sights from our optics - no point in having hot guns if we can't shoot shit. LOL. My score from last night is a testament to that. Well... the other rule I need to learn is to stop building guns 30 minutes before a competition and expecting it to work right out of the case. There's still a muscle-memory training period required to get used to handling and sight positions... :P |

Lokisama put a ton of effort into that build and it looked great up close.
It takes a lot of guts to build a pistol, show up at a competition and go up against 15+ other shooters in a timed and scored event. 18 shots, 4 no-shoot targets, a swinging target behind 2 of the no-shoots and 3 different positions...tough course. You get 1 try at it and to attempt it with 3 x 7rnd mags... I know for a fact that the Range Officers were right pricks and picking on every little detail... There were prizes on the line and the entry fee wasn't the cost of a burger and fries...so even some of the guys who have been around for years had their bout of nerves. What really impressed me was how he took the malfunctions in stride and got down to business about how to fix it and make it and his own shooting better (with pros like Illusion and MadMax on hand, only a fool wouldn't use the opportunity to get their take on things). He didn't bitch, whine or sulk...sucked it up, approached it in a constructive way and moved on. Good shooting last night. |

The SD Chamber and Slide needs a run-in period, and some liberal use of file to make work smoothly. You basically need to break the edge off the chamber lugs (add some small chamfer wouldn't hurt either) around both the chamber portion and the slide portion+ few hundred hand cycles it should work properly....
I'd like to suggest you change the hammer+sear combo....though this upgrade will need some tweaking on your end, It improves the trigger feel a ton I find once you get it working properly...and not to mention a hell of a lot more durable.... Perhaps consider getting the AS hammer mechanism kit from Redwolf which includes the hammer, sear, hammer rod, and I think a striker as well.... btw I'd also recommand away from the FA mid-frame kits....they are a bit more trouble than they are worth....especially if you are building a racer instead of a Tacticool Hi-Capa....If you can get your hands on one in Canada, SD's 2011 midframe are supposed to be much better fitting than FA...then there is the upcoming Airsoft Surgeon ones....

If anything gets run-in between SD chamber and slide, it's the slide getting anally worked in. :P
I have two destroyed SD slides from this "work in period", meanwhile, the steel chambers still have flawless edges on the lugs. :P If anything, you'd have to take a file to the lug right away... As for switching the sear and hammer, I totally agree. I use to use (and swear by) the Carom shot setup - it felt super smooth with a really positive feel. Then I started experimenting with KM setups which was also nice - but I still liked the Carom Shot setup better. ... and then last night, I installed the Airsoft Surgeon setup and... oh man, right of the box, they work like a dream and the trigger pull is buttery smooth... mmmm..... Out of the box, the SD midframe installs easier than the FA mid-frames, but if you can get the FA mid-frames fitted right, they're not as finicky as the SD ones - at least that's from my experience. I'd like to see how the Airsoft Surgeon midframes are. I just received an AS slide for 4.3 - haven't installed it yet, but the build quality is top notch. |

Thanks for the great comments guys!
I've greatly reduced the chamber issue. 1. The nine ball airseal chamber's airseal too tight. So tight, that the packing grabbed onto the nozzle as the slide was traveling and thus pulled the entire hop up unit out away from the chamber. [Illusion and Madmax has gone extra lengths to ensure that this does not happen with their own custom mods. My gun was doing the opposite.] 2. The SD chamber is machined too tight and it often sticks to the hop up unit. I have managed to make it smoother by filing it in places. But the stock still seems smoother. With those problems sorted out.. The gun is way more reliable. So happy that I found out the first issue.
