Door number one? Or door number two?

So, rule number 2 of Airsoft Noob-ism, just behind Wer do i get an al blak gan! has to be, Don't ask what gun to get.

That being said, I just sold my TM AUG and I have narrowed it down to 2 guns to replace it.

I will be playing mainly CQB, so I want something smaller than the AUG, with more customization potential, and more rails.

I have narrowed it down to either the G&G AK Beta Spetz or the G&G UMG.

They are both small-ish.

It seems that the UMG is better quality, but the FPS is ridiculously low, stock.

I know FPS is NOT a big deal, but the UMG will eat up my current budget, so no upgrades for a while, and I want to be able to game it right away.

Commence advising me.

FPS is fine for CQB. Go with the UMG.
What is your budget? (it shouldn't eat it up)
You should be, but I am not sure of the UMG inner barrel length, and if it'll be enough for when you play outdoors.

EDIT: Pouches are a little harder to find, but I believe MP5 Pouches can accommodate UMG Magazines

My all black UMG chrono'd at 350-360. Even stock TM FPS of 280 is good.

Hmm, more then I thought.

I had heard >250fps.

So, unanimous UMG approval?

And we are talking a student, in-between-jobs budget of $500 max.

The less the better.

We're talking just an AEG, not gear and all, though.

Chargers, batts, sidearm and vests are all already purchased and have seen some use.

For CQB, go for the UMP.

Velocity is not a big deal. The only 'deal' with it is the limits set, and your gun can't exceed that. For CQB, that's 350 fps MAX, and in most of Canada, that's 400 fps for outdoors, although some places will allow AEGs up to 420.

And if you want something customizeable with easily available parts, accessories, mags, etc, you'd probably be better off with an MP5 than a UMG. UMG mags are harder to get, and pouches for them are nearly non-existant (won't fit in the majority of MP5 pouches).

For CQB, your FPS is fine stock, for either choice. However, I'd recommend the AK.

Armalites and AK's are basically the most common AEG's out there; you're going to have more upgrade/customization potential because of that. You're doing CQB, so all you should need is light, verticle foregrip and red-dot sight; rails really shouldn't matter.

Ak also has the advantage of using Warsaw magazines; again, ease of finding pouches due to it's commonality is a plus. If you start playing field games, then you have a platform that can have the longer barrel to help you at extended ranges. UMP magazines are -long-, the length of pull to draw a magazine is pretty rediculous; you're going to have to practice lots to get any sort of speed reload with a the UMG.

Unless you're using some really out of spec knockoffs that I've never heard of; no... P90 and UMP mag pouches are interchangable.

MP5 Pouch
P90 / UMP pouch

I know I would be better off with an MP5, or, like what the guy above said, an ArmaLite or AK, but I've always had the delusion that I was unique, and like my gun to be a bit different then the masses of Ak's and Armalites out there.

If you feel you should get an UMG, then go ahead, just remember its limitations.

Well, that's why I am asking you guys.

So, here.

I play mostly CQB, but outdoors capable is nice.

I like to customize to some degree; having the option is nice.

I do not like the look of AK47, and the look does matter to me.

I prefer a tactical look, and less common guns are preferable.

Any recommendations?

Well, if you wanted something uncommon and mostly for CQB, I'd recommend a P90. But you can't really customize them much. The UMP still seems like the best choice.. or maybe a Sig 552.

Would like something along the lines of a SCAR? I believe they come with a longer and shorter outter barrel (Not sure on the inner barrel). Has some rails, is rather unique, and you can swap for outdoor and indoor! Plus they use the M-Series mags, and the majority of people carry them, so thats another bonus.

The long/short barrel ones are the SCAR-L and SCAR-H. The proper name for M-Series mags is "STANAG"; or rather any magazines that conforms to the STANAG standard.

Okay, I'm sure I know the answer but I will ask anyways.

There is no clear receiver-ed SCAR, is there?

If yes, I could get it from my local guy without AV (I'm 19, but the AV guy wont respond to PMs)

If no, waiting is fine, but I would rather get the gun sooner than later.
