1 point sling for MP5, fixed or bungee ?
Hello everyone.
Ive looked at a lot of AEGs and I'm pretty sure I'll go for a MP5 with a fixed stock (dunno with model yet, but anyway). As far as I know (and I don't know much on this) I think a 1 point sling would be the best way to go for a MP5. I've search around the forum and i cant seem to find a clear explanation of the main differences/usages between a bungee sling and a fixed sling (i do understand the bungee part though) for a 1 point sling. Can anyone give me some advice on this matter ? Magus.

How were you planning on attaching the sling to the MP5.
I would think the best "area" would be at the skinny part of the stock, but how can you attach it?

One of the reasons bunji slings were introduced, was for breaching shotguns.
It allows the shotgun to be kept close to the body if another weapon is being used. Then when needed it can be pulled away from the body and put to use. It was then adapted to other shorter carbines and subguns. The main problem with bunji slings is that all the cheaper ones, use cheap bunji cord, which has much more "bounce" in it than higher quality slings. This has caused chipped teeth, loss of teeth, bloody noses and other bumps and bruises. The drawback to single point slings is the majority of the time you have to hang onto the weapon to control it's movement. The bunji helps with some of this again, by keeping it close to the body. With a MP5 you shouldn't have much trouble with a bunji sling.

For MP5, I'd still go old school with the 3 point sling. I used it a lot with these type of weapon and I like it a lot.
Especially for a MP5, wich has several dedicated sling systeme to chose from. It will hold your weapon nicely when not in use and still help you deploy the weapon quickly. I'm not a fan of 1 point unless it's a very good one that allow you to hang your weapon away from your workspace (front and sidearm side).

I know there's the one in the middle of the stock, but it seems like that would be too far back for a 1 point sling...

for a single point you could get a webbed loop that has a sling mount. attaches closer to the rear of the gun vs the middle of the stock. I use it on my MP5 and M4 when I have the full stock on it.

For a full stock MP5, a 3 point sling is the best: Classic Army sell very good ones just for MP5.
Single point sling are more for Sliding Stock MP5 that has a single point sling attachment point. |

If you put a single point attached to the stock .. the weapon will hang too low.
full stock MP5 should have a 2 or 3 point sling.. you can however make a more forward sling point attachment with paracord around the narrow part of the stock. I prefer single point on most weapons as it allows transitions to weak side, but I play mostly indoor CQB where such transitions are more common and necessary Quote:

I second what Brian said. A 1-point sling sucks on a full stock MP5. You need a 2-3 point sling for that for best results. I use a 3-point with mine and it's great. With a folding / sliding stock version, the sling loop is on the back end of the receiver, and a 1 point works much better.
And as Brian also said, a piece of paracord arount the thin part of the stock can make a good attachment point for a 1-point sling.

tried looking for a picture of the one I use. this is as close as I can find:
http://www.uncompany.com/pageproduct...sp?prodid=5457 the part on the left goes on the narrow part of the stock near where the stock attaches to the gun. ditch the part on the right and use a better/longer adjustable single point sling. |
