What is more practical?

I am a newbie planning on getting a gun made majority out of metal. Initailly, my plan was to get a G&G GR16 combo with blowback from airsoft 007 because of the battery and low price. However, it has a fibre glass reinforced upper reciever. Because of this, i have been debating whether i should just get A2 Carbine (M16 A2 Shorty) or simply get the combo and buy a metal upper reciever.

Which of my 2 options will be more ideal?

If I were you I would wait. Get age verified. While Ken at 007 is a very trusted dealer I would wait til you get age verified and check out the classifieds. For about the same price you can get a good starter kit ( gun, battery, mags) then all you need is a charger.
Now if you absolutely need a gun right away I would get the A2. The battery and charger that guns come with are complete shite. Spend the extra $70 and get a smart charger from www.airsoftparts.ca and get a battery from www.ebaybanned.com. In the long run this will save you loads of cash.

The main reason why i want to purchase from ken is because i also live in calgary.

This is offtopic but what are the differences between the M4 and M16? I know in real life there are differences in the performance.

Are there other reasons why i should get the A2 instead of the combo?

Well there are players with items in the classifieds who live in Calgary too. In airsoft the M4 is basically a shorter version of the M16. It (the M4) has a collapsible stock and shorter barrel as well as a removable carry handle. Some M16's have a removable carry handle as well. Pretty much it should all depend on what you like better and how tall you are. I am 5'9" and I have a much easier time handling and M4. The M16 has a full stock so you can put a large battery in there, which is the biggest advantage.

When i first looked at the M16, i didnt like the longer barrel which is why im thinking about getting the "shorty" version. So basically the M16Shorty is the same as M4?

AVOID BLOWBACK

Those are decent guns... but if you plan on upgrading, avoid the blow-back feature... it's pathetic at best and makes some of the internals into non-standard parts.

What is wrong with the battery provided by G&G?

Batteries provided by the manufacteres are usually crap. They perform horribly and die fast. And the chargers that come with the guns fucks up the battery more. Never use the charger that comes with the gun on any battery but the one that comes with it.

Dude, your best bet is to get Age Verified and look through the classifieds. You will find full metal there. Some even come pre-upgraded for ya and with extras like batteries, optics, mags and whatnot.

Why are you avoiding Age Verification so much and insisting on not getting it done? It only takes a few minutes if all you want to do is the AV, or you can spend some time with the dude as most AV reps are somewhat vets and know alot about the sport, so they can help you out alot in terms of guidance. You can set up a meeting at a Tim Hortons or a pub and make the most out of it.

how long do you think that battery will last (how much rounds do u think ill be able to get out of it? how long before i need to get a new one?)? My cousin from asia is visiting in a bit so i might get him to get me some badass batteries from there. It should be cheaper ... right?

If you don't like the longer barrel on the m16 but would like a full stock then get a full stock m4, like the CA M15A4 tactical carbine or something similar, that has the full stock of an m16 but the shorter carbine barrel of the m4. The benefits of the full stock is you can use a large battery rather then small (well you can use a large with a regular m4 but you'd have to use a peq box or a battery bag, both solutions I find awkward). Large batteries have a much longer run time then small batteries.

About the run time of a battery. That depends on three things, whether the battery is a large or a small, the quality of the battery (ie manufacturer) and the battery's mah. The mah is the most important of the three, followed by quality then size. I've got a 3300mah large type NiMH and I've gone over nine hours and easily over fifteen hundred rounds without coming close to draining it. On the flip side, some teammates with 1200mah small types have drained them in the span of four to six hours of general skirmishing.

As to your question of how long batteries last. If you get a good charger and take care of them they'll last you years. Always good to have a spare, just in case something happens to your primary battery, or one of your teammates forgets to charge their battery (which happens way more often then you'd think), but you don't need more then two (unless you go with low mah small types in which case three or four wouldn't go astray). I can't say anything about the cost of batteries in Asia, but I use cheapbatterypacks.com.

Oh and +1 to Amos and notom66866, stock batteries suck and blowback is a nice novelty but are more trouble then they're worth for a serious skirmish gun.

Not long. It really depends on the way you play, on the quality of the battery, the quality of the wiring in the gun, the motor draw.. etc, etc.

Point is, for $40, you can get a MUCH better battery that will last a lot longer, and for another $40, you can get a charger that won't cook your batteries.

Thank you so much for all your responces

After starting this thread, i started looking into the G&G A4 M16 commando. This gun has the front handle, metal rail, and crane stock for $465. I thinking that is a relatively good deal because G&G M4 is 365 without any of the things i listed above. Ive been on airsoftparts.ca and just a crane stock is about 100-160 depending on the battery it comes with. Also, i wouldnt need to do any of the front to rear wiring. Should i just go for this or try just get my verified and look at the sexy stuff?

Btw nice pics!

Does anyone know if there is a shotgun attachment for the M4/M16?

If you're in the process of getting AV'd, and don't have an immediate pressing need for an airsoft gun, I'd wait.
