STAR M4 RIS Loose handguard

Ok so another problem with my STAR M4, Since I got it the R.I.S. Hand Guard has been getting looser and looser, Now it turns almost 5-10 degrees both ways, Only the hand guard is turning, the sight and barrel move slightly. It was ok at first now it is just a pain in the ass.

Thanks for any help

If the barrel moves a bit, you have to tighten the barrel nut. As for the RIS, if it has an allen screw on top (front of carry handle), tighten it.

You need the proper delta ring and front cap for the RIS. The front cap requires a screw that screws into the front sight.
I had the same problem, with the turning. You need to tighten the barrel nut located infront of the delta ring when placed on to stop barrel movements.
As for the turning of the handguard, you would need to require to get shims for the barrel to get your delta ring 'nut' into place.
It's pretty hard to explain for me, it depends on what you bought, and what came with it.

Ok I'll look at it and see what i can do, It was the STAR M4 RIS so every thing should fit fine, If i added the RIS to it then I could see, but oh well. Also the Fake gas tube is in the way so i cannot tighten the barrel nut, the gas tube does not want to come out either.

I think Hitman is way off track.

The barrel nut on ARES and STAR ARs is indexed by the gas tube, much like real ARs. It is not the design found in most other AR AEGs. It is rock solid and there is no means to "tighten" it (or for it to work itself loose) without removing the gas tube.

If your RIS is rotating, it is likely not engaging and indexing on the barrel nut at all. That is the most likely culprit and what you need to address. Pictures of that area of your gun would be helpful, don't forget to turn on the macro setting.

Oh crap, I forgot about the gas tube..
Mine didn't come with one, so I had to get shims so it wouldn't move.
Thanks Saint. Helped out two guys with a post.

Oops, I should probably clarify that a bit. In addition to obviously locking the barrel nut in place, the barrel nut on the ARES and STAR actually also lock the barrel in place.

In comparison, some AEGs actually employ a secondary inner ring nut inside the barrel nut, and it's that inner nut that tightens the barrel in place.

Shots of 3, 4 and 5 with the macro turned on would be nice. Or mail it to me.

It looks like the teeth on the barrel nut is wearing away at the RIS. There should be some sort of protruding surface feature on the RIS where it's touching the barrel nut, can you tell if they've been worn away at all? If they have, an intern solution is put some electrical tape on the barrel nut, then put the RIS on. The tape will act to shim away the loose space causing moment.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I got the Star M4A1 sans RIS. While it is a great gun, I wish I could've gotten an ARES M4A1 instead. The build quality is suppose to be even better.

well, I'll try the Tape, but I also notice that the barrel but does move a bit, I've got a DPMS AR wrench on the way so I'll try tightening it up abit, hopefully it only a small prob, it seems like the aluminum they made it from is not high quality.
