Really, Really New to Airsoft Guns w/ a Couple Questions

I'm new to airsoft guns and have a couple questions about airsoft guns in Canada.

First, can I own any thing from Tokyo Marui? (I'm over 18 so I just need to know a general law)

Second, If I can own them, where is a good place in Canada to buy them along with accessories and ammo? (Preferably somewhere in Quebec but online is good too)

Third, If I can own Tokyo Marui guns, which ones can't I own? (Like prohibited)

Finally, If I can own them,I saw they had M10 and Thompson M1A1 models on their website, which is a better buy?

Any answers are appreciated.

Before there used to be a moratorium on TM so.... yeah. But to the best of my knowledge that was lifted, BUT you can't get airsoft shipped in without customs seizing the package. SO you must order it through a "middle man" who does have the proper licenses to import said item. There are people with said licenses who can do that for you but you must be AV'ed in order to place an order with them since they only want the guns going to people who will actively play (or using it for a wallhanger/plinking not shooting the neighbours cat or having "battles in the street").

That being said the best place is right here on ASC. You must jump through a few hoops first before you can start buying stuff but it's well worth it. Contact an AV rep in your area (read the FAQ section for that) and just wait until they submit your info and you get into the system. Be warned though if they feel you are "sketchy" in any way they may refuse to verify you even though you are 18+.

For BB's, "BBBastard" or one of the regional reps that sells the BBBastard brand are great.

Nothing is prohibited airsoft =/= Real Steel so you can pretty much have anything to your hearts content.

In addition I highly suggest against an AEP such as the M10 and a Thompson. Reason being is that it's hard to do work on those (unless the Thompson is a V2/3 gearbox in which there are many gundocs who know them inside and out). If you're going to game it outdoors the Thompson is probably the better buy but if you want an indoor gun the M10 (as in Mac 10 right?) is probably a more maneuverable/more appropriate gun.

Forth, revise you profile with your location. The local players in your area can help you a lot more easily with what options and requirements are available in your area.

As for your questions, yes you can have TM guns, any of them, but you'll have to get Age Verified to do that (info for AV is in the FAQ). You can sometimes get them from retailers here on ASC as well as in the classified section once you're AV'd. What you can get really depends on what's available in country.

M10, ok gun. Small, short range can't upgrade much. Basically a glorified pistol.

M1A1, great gun, super strong gearbox. Fairly rare. Mags not too easy to find in country, but easy to order from overseas (ok to import these mags). The connection from the barrel assembly to the reciever is a bit on the weak side, so don't fall on it. There's not much for accessories for it either.

Thanks for the info guys. To be honest I just want them as a substitute to real guns. I'm more of a collector than avid player. I'll still shoot them occasionally when I go up to my country place (as to not possibly damage anything in an urban environment, not that my intention is to destroy things but as a precaution). I want to shoot targets and improve my accuracy. I could possibly go into actually playing the sport later, no doubt about that. Also, the reason I chose those guns is because they are prohibited in they're actual "real" gun forms as are all full auto guns.

You could have gotten a Dewat Thompson for a wallhanger couldn't you?

Anyways. If that's the case you're probably better off getting a pellet gun that fires at "495 FPS" or one of the >500 FPS ones if you have a PAL. Reason being is that the expected range/accuracy of airsoft is laughable compared to real steel/pellet guns. Once you've upgraded a gun so that there's about $1000 worth of upgrades in addition to the base cost for your platform only then will you get decent accuracy/range.

If I were you, I would get a pellet gun (~$100-200) for target shooting and Airsoft for gaming (~$150-300 if you get a baseline gun for "once in a while" games).

Hmmm.... seems acceptable. To be honest I thought the two were the same

Well I still think I should get one from Tokyo Marui. They seem to be the best. Hopefully I can find a store somewhere in Canada that carries their products. If that fails, I'll get age verified and look for some on this site.

There are no stores in Canada that sell TM guns. You can end your search right now. The best you'll find from a store in Canada is ICS or G&G with clear lower receivers. If you want an all black gun, then age verification is the way to go. Just note that new non-clear guns are getting harder and harder to come by. The vast majority of what you'll find in the classifieds is used. Even the vast majority of the retailers now only carry the clear receiver guns which are the only ones legal to import and sell in Canada.

And if you get your AV, I would honestly look elsewhere than TM. While stock they'll last a long time, they're far from being 'the best'. You'll be able to pick up a solid, all metal gun for that will blow the TM out of the water in every way for about the same price as a plastic TM with barrel wobble and body flex.
