What did you buy and from where?

BSF5044 states you cannot import most airsoft into Canada without proper licensing, if your gun is black, you are SOL.

Nothing. It's gone now as far as you're concerned.

Your only defense is that they are mistaken in their classification of your item. They have seized it as a replica that you lack the proper documentation to import. If you can prove it's not a replica .. then you may get your gun back.

As most non clear airsoft guns easily meet the criteria to be deemed replicas according to the CBSA.. you likely have little prospect to seeing the gun again.

its a valuable lesson

Very true, but too bad it was a costly one. The only thing I could say, Is say its a toy, the object of it is not to harm someone. But yeah, if it isn't a clear body... Hate to say it, but I think your boned on that one. =/

You are most likely boned and should write off the gun now.

However, never go down without a fight. Write them some sort of coherent, rational legal sounding appeal letter and someone in the government just might get confused and release the damned thing to you. Don't hold your breath, and don't order directly from outside the country again.

Ask them to ship it back to the sender for a refund?

Not sure if it works that way and I believe there is some sort of "special courier" that's required (I believe it was a special bonded courier approved by the government or something), that is if the company that shipped it to you will even accept a return.

Other than that you're boned. If you had read the FAQ's here before ordering you would have known the risks involved and wouldn't have tossed whatever it was you had into the garbage.
