Charging batteries

So i'm pretty new to electric guns, as i've been using Gas guns for a while.. after doing some research and asking around, I decided to buy a G&P Enforcer.

The gun looks real sexy, but just one problem, it didn't come with any means of instructions. I asked the guy at the shop which battery & charger i should use, so he sold me a 8.4 volt, 1600mAh, Intellect battery ('brick' type), with a 900 mA charger. Apparently the light on the charger is red when it is charging and it turns green when it's done. I charged the battery overnight and when i woke up and checked it, the light wasn't green. Anway, i unplugged the battery and put it in the gun. And fired a few test rounds, fired perfectly. So i left the battery in the gun with the gun on safe mode for a couple hours, then when i tried firing it again (with the battery that i used previously still inside) it wouldn't fire.. so my friend sold me another battery of the exact same type because i thought i had messed this one up. so that one's been charging since this morning (11:30) to now (9:50) and the light still hasn't gone green... And the battery is pretty hot... So I'm not exactly sure what my next step is from here... Some guidance?

When the light goes green its on trickle charge ,you should remove it when it goes green or you will slowly over charge it !maybe there is a prob. with your charger!

It's been charging for about 10 hours now and it still hasn't gone green.... it's a brand new battery though, if that helps

If its a 1600mah battery and a 900mah charger, it should only take a little under 2 hours for the battery to full charge. Its quiet possible you may have damaged the battery or the chargers detection may possibly be damaged and unable to confirm a full charge.

no, the detection isn't messed up because when the battery isn't plugged into the charger the light is green.

ok this changes things... i just looked at the battery (one my friend gave me) (brand new) and the plastic casing has melted... i'm assuming this means I can't use it in my gun anymore...?

Unfortunetly I cannot think of anything else.
The only thing I can think if is to buy the same battery as you had before, charge it for about 2 hours and unplug it regardless what color the light it. If the battery runs well and can get out more than a few mags worth of BBs then its possible the charger could be damaged or its possible the cells were bad from the start in both original batteries.
Perhaps you can hit up the shop you purchased from for some guidance.

when i buy a new battery (same style) how long do i need to charge it for? Is it the same (2 hrs?) or is it an extra amount of hours?

The formula is simple.

Say you have a 1200mah battery, and a charger that puts out 300mah, it would take about 4 hours to charge that 1200 mah battery. 1200 divided by 300.So in your case you if you had 1600mah battery and a 900mah charger, it would take 1.7 hours to charge the battery.

If youve been cranking juice into a battery for since 11am till now, and the battery is fairly hot. There is a good chance the battery is damaged.

yup, as i mentioned earlier, the battery casing melted and peeled, so i had to throw it away, couldn't pick it up, so i used a heat-proof-cloth. Anyhow, i've still got the original battery, that died on me after less than a single mag. If the gun is on safe mode is it still consuming battery? Also, which brand of battery has been most reliable for you? because i'm looking for something i can depend on, not something that melts on me and that comes with a shitty charger....... lol

I use the Elite batteries from www.cheapbatterypacks.com. Very reliable. Intellect are also very good batteries.

To expand on this, it is generally accepted that recharable batteries recive a 10-20% overcharge to make sure they are full. so in the case of the 1600mAh battery on a 900mAh charger the forumula would work out to be the following (I am using a 15% overcharge)

(1600X1.15)/900 = 2.04 hours, or 2 hours and 2 mins (2 hours would do fine :P)

I cannot answer your question about the charger, but unless your weapon has some electronics that run the whole time off of the better, it will not consume any power unless you are shooting. The wireing of AEGs is really simple. think of it like a light in your home, when you turn it on it uses power, when you turn it off it does not use power.
