Precisions on parts needed : brands and such

Hi guys,

My local gun doc did some maintenance on my Galaxy MP5K and told me I would soon need to change the shell of my gearbox and the nozzle.

I forgot to ask him the following questions so I thought you guys could help me so I could order the stuff soon :

1. What is the exact word used to search for a gearbox shell in a store? (shell, case, casing, etc...)

2. Does the brand of the gearbox shell really matter much (quality-wise)?

3. When he said I needed a nozzle (used to load the BB in the gearbox or something), what is the exact name of the nozzle I should search for?

4. Again, does the brand of the nozzle really matter?

Thanks everyone!

I'd like to know why he said it'd be time to change the mechbox shell...it's hard to tell in advance that they'll fail (at least I find it hard to tell).

Gearbox/mechbox/mecha-box are all kind of interchangeable. Get the version right (MP5K is a Version 3).

A "complete" mechbox....has everything assembled in it. Otherwise it's just the left and right shell halves.

Reinforced mechboxes are nice. DBoys/clone mechboxes suck. KA/G&P mechbox shells are nice. Guarder are ok sometimes. Classic Army mechboxes are nice (at least in my opinion...some don't like them).

A really good complete mechbox will run you $220-300.

You want a MP5K nozzle. Different models have different nozzles to work properly (i.e. an AK nozzle will not work for an AUG).

Modify makes a good "airseal" nozzle. Good nozzles will seal nicely with the cylinder head and will minimize/eliminate any air leakage between those two parts. Some nozzles have tiny o-rings inside them...others don't. Doesn't matter a big, big deal (to me) as long as it seals up nicely and stays that way (they wear eventually and the o-ring ones seem more consistent so I usually go that route).

Your gun doc should take the time to explain all of this, and any other questions that you have.

Best of luck,

Tys

He said some kinda rail or track (for lack of the specific word) that keep the piston (or cylinder) aligned are very worn and will fail soon. He explained things precisely as to why they needed to be changed but I didn't think of asking about specific brands or specific names.

Also my knowledge of gearboxes is limited (and have no interest in pushing it further). So I have to trust him. He has a good rep.

Thanks for your help. Anyone else's opinion is welcome.

Thank you for the info! It's always good to get another persons view on mechboxes and parts. Odd though...I've never seen rails worn out from regular plastic piston use...I'll have an eye on that in particular now on.

If you trust your gun doc, go with the name brand of parts that he uses the most.

I like a lot of Modify stuff...others like Deepfire. Some use a lot of Prometheus and Systema.
