HOLY! Comtac II replicas!
HOLY CRAP ebaybanned is about to get some Comtac II replicas! 64 USD is quite cheap but it doesnt say if it has any functions like the real one. im assuming some sort of electronic amplifier is in there due to the fact it uses a battery. Huang~ when are you gonna get some, i gave up on ebaybanned sigh.

i wonder if someone will find out the hard way if the replicas offer hearing protection.
Hopefully you can adjust the volume on the amplifier or they are useless. They also need to make plugs to fit milspec radios and not just toy ones.

I am aware. It is from Element. I am waiting for a confirmation from another manufacuter if their comtac actually supports noise reduction etc features or just look like real one. I may get some Element's comtac too.

Little big for my liking. Looks like an aviation headset.

just use a small micro phone, play an audio file OR go out to the range and do this with a laptop, and record the volume of what it recorded at. Making sure no settings have been changed tape the head set down over the mic. Crude but should show some sort of result on whether it offers protection or not. If it does there should be a significant reduction in recorded volume, if not then well there ya go. No?

For protection, I will stay safe and wear my peltors. If I am going for a cheap alternative and a specific kit, then I would try these...but they would have to have a better PTT and quick detach for saber radios..
the mic has to have a human length on it too so it actually reaches your mouth unlike the other tasc ones being sold.

Come on he was referring to radios like Motorola talkabouts etc and asking for different connectors such as Saber. On that note I have to say my Hopes for this "knock Off" is pretty minimal. Every "knock off" I have bought has turned out to be utter shit, I don't see these being any different. But I will probably buy them as well.

quoting from the Taiwanese forum member who has one testing right now. he said it does have some kind of noise reduction system like the real thing. he didnt mention amplifying soft sounds though. And it also have 3 types of pins available, motorola, icom, and kenwood.

Bare minimum it has to have sound amplification otherwise they are useless. Sound protection is for real steel...If you need that buy real Peltors.

Have to agree. I have the real deal, and the amplification is the only thing that makes wearing them worthwhile in the heat. Being able to hear amplified ambient noise while still hearing clear radio comms AND filtering out gunshots makes 'em a winner.
If the clones can't amplify and provide only marginal comms, they're not good for much more than an LCF modifier. Particularly if the PTT is as "reliable" as the ones on the other knockoff headsets. |

And then you're probably closer to 500$ than 180$. Either way if those don't do anything as far as sound amplifying goes they're just worthless since you'll be playing as a nearly deaf guy.
