V3 Custom Gearbox un-winding

Here's a video of what it's doing...

Before it use to do the un-wind... but only a 1/4th of what it's doing now.

I put a new modify anti-reversal latch spring in... Thinking it might get rid of the little bit of the un-wind... but it made it worse...

My thoughts are weak anti-reversal latch spring...

Your thoughts?

U need a new anti reversal latch, or your bevel gear notches are getting to worn down.

hows the condition of the bevel gear? is that really worn down to the latch doesn't catch?

I'd say that you either need a new ant-reversal latch altogether, not just the spring. Either that, or the teeth on the bevel gear that the latch catches on are worn.

the spring might be too weak, the notches on the gear might be finished, the anti reversal could be incompatible, or the mechbox squeezes it too tightly.

Yeah I had this same problem with my V2, All i did was file the edges of the bevel a bit where the anti reversal catches, filed the tip of the reversal latch itself, make it sharper to catch better, and bent the spring a bit so it engages harder and faster.. Seems to have worked, not a single problem since. If V3 isnt to different that is.

I had the same problem on a buddy's V2 and the cause was actually the modify latch. Switching back to his original G&P latch solved the problem.

Now I'm not sure if it was a latch that came with the drop-in gearsets or if it was the latch that can be purchased seperately (or are they the same?) but I was told the latch isnt' compatable with regular gearsets.

The unwinding also destroyed his piston. It wore down the first several teeth and broke the first one...all in the opposite direction (forward)!

Flatlander: the modify latch that comes with the modular gearset is not compatible with regular gearsets. It`s a different design meant to be used with their modular gearsets only. This is what led to the failure in Mike`s gun.

Their standalone latch which is sold separately is compatible with V2V3 gearboxes... lots of people have used it with great success.

Amos, if you have a spare bevel gear throw that in and see if it helps.

Amos check your anti-reversal latch...I had similar issue. I moved the spring to rest on the lower part of the mechbox...not the top part. the spring rests against bottom part causing more pressure on the anti-reversal latch. this did the trick for miine. the srpring was not holding it enough in place. if you wish to set up time i can show you on webcam.

I fixed the problem, Turns out the cheap chinese gears I was using only had 3 catches for the ARL... I swapped the gear out with one with 5 and replaced the spring and it's working better than ever now
