Help needed - mystery part that I can't find the spot for

Ok, a little background here - I blew the spur gear on my TM M4A1 a while back, and ordered a Modify torque-up modular gearset to replace all my gears. I've so far disassembled and reassembled my mechbox 4 times. While I could never test its functionality, at least everything seemed to fit back together properly without any leftover parts.

Now, I finally received my replacement parts, and dove into the replacement. While cleaning out the mechbox, the trigger assembly fell out (not uncommon) Now, I have this leftover part that I'm not sure about. I watched the disassembly video on mechbox.com several times, and for the life of me, can't figure out where this part goes. I don't see it in the video at all.

I have a picture of the said part here below. If anyone can tell me what it is and where it goes, I would be eternally grateful.

Lol, that part sits in the rear wire groove of the mechbox. It literally just holds the wires down in the groove itself. Seems that the TM M4 is the only gun I've seen that I remember using that part to hold the wires down.

That fell out of the trigger assembly? Is it metal or plastic.. looks like metal to me, I have no idea what that could be for.. safety lever broken? hmm..

hmm, makes sence I guess, I guess my TM M4 that part was optional or already lost.. Cool.

I'm not sure where it fell out of, to tell you the truth. I just noticed it fell when the trigger fell out. The part is plastic, and its edges are smooth enough that it doesn't look it's it's a piece that broke off of something. It seems to me like the trigger assembly works. The safety works fine. I've played with the selector plate, and it works. Sliding it over to safe locks the trigger as it's supposed to.

I don't like having myster parts that I can't identify...

Thanks Stalker. That's it. Now I see it in the mechbox.com video. I thought it was part of the trigger assembly because it fell out at the same time as the trigger, and that's where I was looking for it on the video.
I guess it was just coincidence that it fell out at the same time as the trigger while I was pushing out the old nylon bushings.

It is indeed the wire retainer. And seems to me like it's an optional part, although I will put it back in now that I know where it goes.

Thanks guys.

It just holds the wires down. Nutshell, don't worry about it, it isn't a required part at all.

Well, I'm hoping that I don't need any more help at this point, but since this is the first time I'll be reassembling and actually able to test-fire, I may just be back. Although I don't think there will be any more mystery parts. I now have the news gears in my mechbox and reassembly seems to be going well.

However, due to my noob-ness, I may be back for more help.

We're around if you do. I have a couple of M4A1 mechboxes I have to clean out and install eveyrthing into reinforced shells the next few days, so I come here to take a break. Also have a major rebuild of my CA M24 to do, and also have to reassemble a CA M249 SAW. So ya, busy here. Lol

Hmmm... I can't seem to remove the piston head in order to install my new Prometheus MS110 spring. Odd. I'm once again following the instructions on mechbox.com. The actual piston head comes loose (as in, I can rotate it counter-clockwise), but it doesn't unscrew or come off at all. It seems to freely turn in either direction with minimal resistance. Short of cutting off the piston head in installing a new one, is there another way to do this?

The screw inside the head has broken free of the piston head so the head spins freely. What you can do is use an exacto knife and trim out the plastic in the middle of the piston head until you expose the phillips head screw. You could also use a dremmel cone shaped sanding attachment on a lower rpm remove the plastic. Once you expose the screw its easy to get the piston head off.
+ 1 on stalkers assessment of the wiring clip. Give us something harder next time

Well, I got it reassembled, tried to fire, got a grinding noise, and the fuse blew. I guess I did something wrong. D'OH!

Guess I have to tear it apart again tomorrow and see if I can get it working. I just may be back to ask for more help.

Either that, or I'll see if I can possibly bribe one of the local members with copious amounts of beer to give me a hand in person. lol

solid chunky grinding noise or light fast grinding noise?

solid one - you have gearing/ piston issue

light - its just pinion gear depth/ timeing

blowing a fuse? hmmm... could be conincidence, but also could be an expoed wire (short) for teh most part i would check outside the box for this issue forst.
