Sights useless on Echo 1 PDW?
I just purchased an Echo1 MP5 PDW that will be a gift for my bro who wants to get into airsoft. Anyways, I test fired it today after I recieved it to make sure everything was good. At 50' (I measured) it was shooting way up and to the left. regardless of the how I adjusted the hop-up. I used a small 18"X18" box and to hit the center I had to aim at the lower right corner. This was indoors so there was no wind factor. Are the sights on this just useless?, is there a way to correct it?, or am I facing another problem? I want to correct this before I give it as a gift.
Hoping another owner could answer this one. |

Sights are rotated properly. I tried to move the sight all the way to the right within the "play" and no dice, still to the upper left harsh. Concerned about a bent barrel or a lemon. Basicly, I want to rule out if the sights do work on this or if its just an echo 1 issue that the sights just suck.

Or it could be the hopup. Not the adjustment, but internally (rubber most likely?). It's not that big a deal, but not that nice to find out of the box.

Agreed, my worry is that my test was only at 50'. So will it trail even more to the left at 100... I dont want my brothers first experiance to be that he has to fire to right of all his targets. And im not too keen on pulling apart a new gun and messing with it so close to wrapping it up. Ordering a new rubber might be cutting it close to xmas if that is the issue. Any other owner have probelms with thier sights?

I didn't actually get to shoot mine at long distances in the short time I had it, but from what I've heard, the accuracy is rather marginal on the MP5K anyways due to its really short barrel. However, if it's consistently shooting up and to the left, there are a number of things you can check.
Unload the gun and disconnect the battery, then remove the flash hider. Look down the barrel adapter to see if the inner barrel is noticeably misaligned. If you can't tell from there, twist off the barrel adapter (there's also a small grub screw at the bottom) for a better look. If everything checks out, you might have a misbehaving hopup. As you've said, that brings up the issue of whether you'd get a new set in in time, though I think Airsoftparts.ca has a few left in stock if you hurry. Also, I assume you're shooting 0.20g? Try shooting 0.25g and see if that changes anything at all.

Yes, I was useing .20 bbs. Didnt think to try my .25s. Ive tried a few different rifles and this was the first gun where the shots were right out to lunch from where the sights were aiming, but consistantly in the same spot. I could achieve a good grouping by firing at the same spot but it would be up and left of my point of aim. Its not random. Supposedly its a brand new gun, got it from the classifieds.

I was gonna suggest tryin .25's as well..how many FPS does the manufacture say it does?..Also when u adjusted rear sight did you notice it movin..the rear sight could be bunk, Add a red dot and try that.If it is the hop up, do you have the knowledge to swap it out?. If so, order one and help your brother exchange it after xmas. He'd probably enjoy learnin how that stuff works.

I tried .25's and same thing happened. I adjusted the rear sights as far right as it would allow with the adjusting screw, its better, but still to the left... id say 1-2 inches left of point of aim from 25feet. Can a hop up rubber alone cause this kind of deviation? Im thinking of replacing the inner with a tightbore and a new packing unless there is somthing else I could tryout next, as there is always some troubleshooting trick that some vet knows about.

maybe your hopup rubber is twisted... if you are afraid of taking it apart, i think theres a mp5 take down and re-assembly vid on mechbox.com. try not using the sights and if its shooting drastically to the left (ie more than the sights can adjust for) its prolly not a sight problem.

You have a Chinese knockoff MP5K.. The barrel in that is smaller than most pistol barrels.. These things aren't tack drivers...
Then again, I've never used a stock MP5K... But.. AEG-logic says it that it isn't a range gun.. |

I found the same thing with my Echo-1. Adjust the sight as much as you can but it will only get so good. If you buy a tight bore get a longer length and a different nozzle while you are at it. The BBs are like paintballs at any distance...totally random
I am finding the hop-up is always on with my Echo-1. Try replacing the little rubber piece (like wire insulation) on the hop-up to something smaller...like wire insulation or WD-40 straw. Don't use the take down video off of mechbox.com as they are for the V2 gear box where you have to split the whole gun in 1/2 to get at the hop-up. Use the videos that airsofthawaii posted in the review section for this gun.

If you think your hop up/barrel is twisted a bit to the left, put your hop up on full, and load a bunch of 0.12g BBs into the mag, then shoot off. Since they are so light compared to the hop up setting, they will overhop by extreme amounts, and you can sort out if the barrel/hop up is the problem or not.
