Painting Rigs?

Hey, I got a Phantom Wasatch in O.D. I Really love this thing.. but, I don't want an O.D rig anymore.. Which brings me to my question; which paints work best on soft material? I don't want to inhale krylon dust everytime I'm wearing it.. so what do you guys suggest? Will leather paint work?

I painted heavy jean to stich on my ghillie suit for reinforcement. It make the material feel sandy and it rub off with time. I used OD Krilon paint as I'm a lazy SOB when it come to details like this.

Don't do like me on your vest, it ain't a detail hehe.

Just use the krylon in Canada for the sake that it is easy to find at CDN tire.

The smells wears off very quickly, especially if you actually wear it out for some fun.

That isn't very sound advice.

I have seen people try to 'dye' their rigs, the results have been attrocious.

Painting rigs is a COMMON practice, especially among US elite soldiers. I myself have painted who knows how many rigs now, and the results have been good in terms of effect and realism.

I just painted mine.. The results are decent. Not nearly as dark as I'd like.

The Krylon DID make it look pretty BAMF, though...

dying is like painting : be patient and follow instruction

I don't think so, unless it's for camo purpose like breaking the shape, then yes paint is the way but as far as I understand Kos doesn't want OD anymore and painting a CIRAS in CB or black will be really uggly...

I wouldn't be surprised if guys in whatever acronym painted their rigs. But I'm sure they have a nicer way of doing it. Min doesn't feel too fieldable..

Paint imo wouldnt work well. Paint (depending on what kind) is designed to form a layer on top and dry. If your using soft material, that paint will start to crumble and crack and flake. You need something that the material will absorb. Thats what dyes do. Ive never tried it mind you, but personally id rather just buy a 2nd vest in the color i want XD, but thats just me. My 2 cents

I noticed your in Toronto, if you want to spend an extra couple of bucks, theres a place on Spadina I think called "The Bomb Shelter" Its a graffiti/paint surplus store. They Carry a bunch of different brands such as Belton and Montana, fast dry, no drip and long lasting. The store has thousands of different colors. So check them out.

The paintjob is often because they have been issued gear not in a color they need, i.e. black or OD when they need tan.

It makes it look quite realistic when a rig is painted, not ugly at all unless one’s definition of cool gear is when the tag is attached and it has a ‘just bought’ shine to it.

Second. If one wishes to talk about ugly, than dye a vest. The Wasatch like most vests is not a SINGLE color but rather many shades of one. Take a look below at the Phantom Wasatch in OD. It is not one color only, turning it all into one however will look odd/ugy for sure.

Below is a short and certainly non-exahaustive collection of SEALs, Special Forces, Delta, and AFSOC with painted rigs, many of which features attempts to paint OD into khaki/tan or whatever.
