M14 Trigger Issue

Hey, I am having an issue with my M14 trigger assembly, any help would be greatly appreciated.

At the last game, I noticed my battery was dying, unfortunately I let off a few semi-auto shots to further discharge the battery, after about 10 shots I pulled the trigger, and noticed the issue. After a hard trigger pull, I heard a click and the gun ceased firing. After charging the battery, I attempted to let off an automatic burst to unjam the M14. Nothing. Same issue. After disassembling, I noticed a trigger assembly select fire part, (shaped like a U, wraps around the rear of the receiver) was cracked. I glued the part back together, attached battery to reciever, fired and the gun finally appeared to be working. After reassembling, and attempting to fire the gun again, the issue reappeared, and the gun wont fire. Im wondering if someone more experienced than myself can diagnose the exact issue, suggest a cure or direct me to replacement parts. ANY help is appreciated, thanks a lot!

Hypothetical question, if I removed the arm altogether would I achieve semi-auto only operation? Thanks.
