load out advice
well i confirmed im going to keystone, this is my first overnight extended play game. im not certian and havent really found any threads assisting me on what to take. ive always played short/mid length games, with a ready zone that you walk back to after the games if necissary. im invisioning that you wont have that option at ks, so im looking for advice.
what are you guys taking with you to the event, what are you useing at the event, what would you reccomend not taking with you on the field ect. extra pair of goggles, speed loader, hydration bladder, are all good things to take with you. but what else? backpack? rain cover? post what you take on the field with you and what youd think youd need but really dont - help those who are not wise in the extended game area out. |

Tent
Tarp, goes under your tent Sleeping pad/air mattress Sleeping bag Rain gear First aid kit Food Water E-tool Spare clothes/socks Watch Bug juice Compass Whistle, in case you will get lost Pretty much same thing you take for a camping trip. For longer games I usually pack medium sized ruck. Enough water/food/bb's/batts/tools to last me whatever time I stay out of the camp.

so would you carry all that gear out on the field with yuou, or would you leave it at a designated area, and return to it when needed. like in my head seeing as i have no experience with these sort of games, am thinking that once your out there, you want to be continually advancing on your objective. you dont want to get so far, then be like ah well shit its too late now, lets go back and tryu again tomorrow. imthinking you move and camp enroute to the objective.
am i right or have i watched black hawk down and tears of the sun too many times? |

Tent and all camping gear stays at the camp site, anything you might need in the field goes wherever you go during the game.
By anything else I mean water supply, some food, poncho/rain gear, first aid kit etc. It also depends on game rules. If you will be playing non stop for 24 hours, sleeping/eating/reloading in the field than you pack enough supplies to survive for 24 hours.

basicly from the advice i've been given from players that have played 24 hour games is take 1-2 bags of bb's, camal back and canteen (all the water you can take is good), extra socks and shirt, extra battery, multi tool, and small amounts of food now thats just stuff u carry with you in a ruck sack. large items such as tents, larger amounts of food if you need it and a complete change of BDU's (if you got any), back-up gun, and gas (thats if you dont want to take it in your ruck sack) would be kept at a camp area or CP if the game rules allow for that.

I saw this and was thinking "Hydration bladder? Try a 20 gallon barrel."
Unlike last year's Keystone which was cancelled due to the field looking like a lake Manitoba has been un-seasonally warm this year. If the current trend keeps up expect to be playing in ~30C weather. Just thought I'd give the guys heading out a heads up. |

The general idea is that you badly need; shelter (can be a tarp). A way to stay warm at night and something to sleep on/in (sleeping bag). A way to stay dry if it rains, and a backup plan if all you own gets wet.
Food and water that requires nothing much to prepare. A way to start a fire, a way to have light, and triple-check your vehicle before you take a long trip. Have a decent first-aid kit with you. There are lots of neat things that require no batteries available these days, look into them. Some of the better camping/outdoors stores are full of excellent equipment you could use at other times. |
