Goggles

Hey all, i'm in need of goggles. I've looked around and came up with this list. I don't want to spend an exorbant amount of money, and i'd preferably like to try these out if possible. Any suggestions where in TO i can try any of these goggles? Also, anyone selling any of these, or any other goggles?

- Wiley-X $65CDN (if not sold yet)
- Bolle T-800 $64US + SH - http://www.opticsplanet.net/bolle-t8...l-goggles.html)
- Bolle X800 $88CDN W/SH - http://204tactical.com/
- ESS Rx $27US + shipping - http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/essicerxlenc.html

See if you can visit ASCA and try the Bolles.

Buy a pair of paintball goggles if you want to play at most games.

If not, I have the T-800's and they kick ass.

You can't wear any of those goggles at paintball fields. Go to Canadian Tire and buy the cheapest paintball goggles they have. Wiley X fog more than any goggle ever made. They are simply unusable. Bolle T800 fog pretty badly as well, although no whee near as bad as the Wileys. My whole team uses Canadian tire safety glasses ...average cost $15....AOS.

are you afraid to use the proper discussion sections? or is there a reason everything has to be put in the general section?

Pball goggles are far less safe IMHO. They are rated on a different scale. Ballistic goggles, like the Bolle T800(excellent goggles) are ANSI Z87.1 rated for the most part. they can stop a nail gun.
Pball goggles use a different system, their lenses flex and are designed to bounch a paintball off. A nail gun will tear right through.
Only get a Pball mask if your field requires it...if not, get ballistic goggles.

ski goggles or other sport goggles are not acceptable.
you only get 2 eyes...dont cheap out.

My bad Droc, overlooked the gear section, i'd appreciate it if someone could move this thread there.

What goggles would you suggest for use at most fields in Ottawa/Toronto. I am mainly interested in the outside (more realistic) games, rather then the inside (paintball-like) games. Do you think Wiley-X's or Bolle x800's would be good for that?

I have gone through several goggles and none have tickled my fancy as much as the Bolle T-800. try the ottawa police supply store, or WGC for cheaper.

Does anyone know if paintball goggles expire? I have a couple pair of Pball goggles from my Pball days, and they're like 8 years old. Should I buy new ones?

Any "ballistic" goggle will do for the local fields here. Have you considered the ESS profile nvg series? I own a pair and they are simply excellent.

Not that I'm aware of. Depending on the make, you should be able to pick up a replacement lense for around $30 if you're worried about it.

They look really nice, but i'm not too happy with the $85US + SH = like 120CDN, if not more :S I can get Bolle X800's for $88CDN shipped. Or i can get Wiley X's used for $55CDN, do you think that'd be a good idea? I hear they fog up quickly though.

Bolle's are your best bet. They are bombproof and they dont fog up nearly as easy as other similar types. If your prone to sweating or fogging up goggles dont go withthe willey's as having fogged lenes on the field is a real bummer, not to mention dangerous. Get the Bolle's and use a good anti fog solution like Sea Drops. ASCA has them listed (not sure if they are in stock) as well as 204tactical.com for around 80 CDN.

again, oakley a frames ARE ANSI Z87.1 rated, just for the sale of conversation. but bolle t800 would be your best bet.

ANSI Z87.1 will not cut it safely. You make sure that they meet ANSI Z87.1-2003 + aka "High Velocity Standard" at the very least. There is a significant difference between it and the original Z87.1 standard.

Also make sure that they seal completely to your face to prevent a bb from entering the ocular cavity and have a retention strap to hold them on your head.

Remember eye protection requirements vary from field to field. Check with the organizer/owner where you plan on playing for what they accept. Ballistic goggles are usually recommended, with the exception of paintball fields as they require everyone to wear paintball approved goggles for their insurance to be valid.
