G3/MP5 GEARS BREAKING
I have a G3SG1 and a MP5SD5. I have not modified either of them, yet both of them have suffered the same problem. The center gear has sheared a few teeth on both guns! Is this a common problem with a stock gun, with this gearbox (V2)? They are both T.M. I also have an AUG ( my first A.E.G.) that has been well used and it has not suffered any problems at all.

Are they totally 'stock' or were they upgraded in the past? If yes, what's in them exactly?

Both guns were purchased new by me. The G3 has had 15 to 20 low caps put through it in my back yard ( don't worry I live in farm country- no prying eyes). The MP5 has been gamed 2 times and at home also ( possibly 20 to 30 high caps). There are no modifications whatsoever.

Somewhat stripped gears on stock gun......Do you know what batteries were used in these guns? A 9.6v battery on a stock gun can do a bit of damage over time.

Damage can also be caused by excessive semi-auto fire. The repetitive start/stop of the gear train while under load has caused lots of gear failure. It was the #1 cause of spur gear failure in the Marui's I've worked on.
In a stock Marui, avoid semi-auto. Controlled bursts in full auto are much more effective and reduce the impact shock to your mechbox that repetitive semi-auto will cause.

And remember, excessive dry firing is BAD!!!!
Figured I'd toss that in. |

I rarely dry fire (only to clear the weapon) but I do fire semi auto alot. Anyways I'll be putting a set of high tork gears in soon with some other minor mods. Thanks for all the input.

High torque gears with a stock spring?
|
May 20th, 2006, 10:19 | #9 |
I'll be putting in a 110 or 120 in and possibly a silent piston/head, bushings & spring guide. nothing too crazy. As I understand high tork gears allow the motor to turn with less effort, so if I did leave the stock spring in, would this not just up your rate of fire? Or would this possible dammage something? Just curious.

High torque will lower your ROF... Read the Upgrades and Modifications section.

Read that the silent piston head reduces fps as well, sometimes by 10-15fps.

My AUG has SYSTEMA m120/ guarder spring guide, piston head/ high torque gears/stock PSG-1 barrel.-410-420fps. A silent piston head is next. I Want to keep them under 400FPS>
