Questions in regards to age.

Heys.

This is my first post on the ASC forums, and I've been reading up on aloot of the stuff here for a while, but there is one topic I couldn't seem to find any information on.

A few of my friends were telling me that people localy, and on these boards would like you to be over 18 years old to play.

If someone could give me the rundown on age limits regarding participating in local airsofting events, it would be great, as I'm only 15, and would like to participate in this awesome sport.

Thats all folks. (:

There are some fields and clubs that allow people 16 and over to play with parental consent. At 15 you may be able to play at some fields with parental consent, best to contact organizers of games and field owners about that.

However you cannot buy an airsoft gun at 15, that's a law, not something "we would like". If you want to play you can always rent an AEG until you are old enough to buy your own.

I don't want to buy guns, I just want to know if I can participate first.

That does help though. I'm not a little pretentious dweeb, so I don't think I have to worry about being used as target practise by the locals.

Or so I hope! ;o

Then check the games section and find a game local to you. Then ask the game host/organizer and field owner if they allow minors with parental consent to play.

Rent an airsoft gun.. that sounds appealing anyways, because I'm still not sure what type of gun would match my style of play. Would it be lawful if someone purchased a gun for me ? (which is what I was planning on doing once I had checked out a couple of games)

No.
You have to be 18 to buy. If you use your parents to go around this rule, it's not looking good for you. You parents are still responsible for you and it's not good for them either.

Well, I've been playing paintball for a couple years, and own alot of gear for that, and me and my family know the risks involved in playing. Also, to be frank, I'm not going to go on drive bys in Toronto with my gear. (: Or do anything similar for that matter.

Meet the crowd, you'll understand why airsoft is really not like paintball.

That will also answer your question about "my parents can buy it for me because...."

It would be good for you if you read the FAQ, for real.
You will understand how airsoft should remain underground and how you should handle an AEG.

Nothing in common with paintball.

Go check out a game first, most games will allow newbies to come spectate at games. You'll be able to meet the players and see some of the stuff first hand plus get most if not all your questions answered in person. Bring your parents so they can see what it's all about. That's what I did when I started oh so many years ago..

Yeah but getting caught by a cop with a paintball gun in public isn't anywhere close of getting caught with an airsoft.

So the risk is different. If you spend the time reading about game rules, they all say 18+, so even if you have a gun, good luck finding a legal place to play.
