Doctor breaks spring guide...charges me for it???

I have a small question, I enlisted the help of a gun doctor to upgrade my UTG. The gun had a broken spring guide initially, so I paid the 35 bucks to replace it with a TM one. Today the gun doctor told me that the TM spring guide broke so he had to put in a metal one for $55 bucks. I'm like ok sure I'll pay the extra 20 bucks. He's like no wait...you're paying for the TM one too. I'm like its not my fault it broke. I shouldn't pay 90 bucks. So I talked him down from 90 to 75 then argued a bit till I got it down to $65 on account of old business. So yeah I should have persisted to get it down to 55 but I say what the hey its 10 bucks and he did lose a spring guide in the process.

So yeah my question is..am I wrong or was the doctor wrong?

What ever happened to 'You break it, you buy it'? He broke it, not you. Why should you have to pay for other people's mistakes?

I dont really know if either of you is right, but morally its not your fault, because you did not break the TM spring. So you should have only paid 55$ in my opinion.

Exectly if I went to get a tire change and they puncture the tire after they change it shouldn't they replace the punctured tire and I only pay for one tire and not their fuck up.?

$55 for a metal spring guide? Damn, for that much money it better come with a coupon for a "treadstone special".

I don't know who did your upgrades, and I don't like to speak ill of what people charge, but you got hosed.

Might I suggest next time you order the parts yourself from wgc and then find a buddy to help you do the upgrades/teach you for a beer or two

LOL agreed but they did my rewiring for free (I did pay for the upgrades though) so w/e right. I'm not going to mention the person's name but I guess he got the point that its not cool to charge for his own fuck ups.

theres alot of people being screwed on the you break it you buy it thing.. a guy i talk to sometimes took his car to canadian tire, and they broke one of his wheel studs and expected him to rplace tit... retarted if u ask me

Always a sensitive issue in my mind. Still shocked with the $35 TM stock spring guide and $55 metal one. If the orignal one was broken, a good doctor would have told you to go right for the bearing spring guide, who to contact to buy one and the price (generally $25). Charging you for the price of the TM spring guide (man, not sure if he buys the parts and charges labour on top) even after it broke........... not sure. Been times something has broken I've worked on, I've either fixed it, replaced it, or the owner decided an upgraded replacement part was best for them to buy. I always go by letting the owner buy the parts they want, sometimes I recommend what to buy (times some want every part upgraded, brace themselves for the cash it'll cost, only to find out that my recommendations of good metal bushings, spring and bearing spring guide costs the least and will be reliable for a very long time).

On the other end, if I charge someone to work on their gun, and the gun screws up after it's left my hands (Shagg's M4 with Guarder FTK comes to mind, 6 locaps through it no problems, he gets it, fires 2 shots and the piston jams) then I keep fixing it til it's perfect. Luckily once a mechbox settles in after it leaves my hands, its good for a long while.

35 for a TM spring guide is also laying it to you. 55 for a metal one is horrible. I've got my systema bearing spring guides for 25ish.

You say he did your wiring for free...given he managed to break a spring guide on an initial install, charge you WAY too much for a TM stock piece and rip you a completely new hole on an upgraded spring guide...the last thing he did for you was anything free.

What if he wired it wrong and cooks the motor...I guess you are suppose to buy another motor aswell....?

Whomever this person is....don't waste your time or money on them anymore and look for a " gun doctor " with some integrity.

If I make a mistake fixing a gun I pay for the part, like misplacing a motor, I'm not going to ask the guy to pay for it. Too bad my mistake part comes out of my pocket.

I started a rough sticky on my team's website for my work (mostly friends posting there for feedback though), but it's not a feedback section like the buyer/seller feedback on here. Was something I thought a great idea for ASC though, and I'd encourage it. I believe the doctor is wrong, it's called quality service for a reason. Although it might not be his fault that the spring guide broke, it's not your fault either. I think you should have got it to be 55$ because really you have no reason to be paying extra.

I guess you could send this guy an e-mail, politely stating that you have no reason to be paying extra, but I guess that's life. Things happen.

I dont' see why you can't use the trader rating for the feed back. I can understand a small fee for purchasing or stocking the part for you, like say $5 and then labour accordingly (and unlike many car mechanics I wouldn't charge 2 seperate labour charges for something like putting in the spring and a spring guide).
