Mesh Bolle 800 - Update march 25 - TESTED.

I was interested in getting some mesh gogles to conker the damn fogging of traditional gogles when i stubbled upon this:

http://privateshelter.com/scaredcrow/?p=20

Seemed like an interesting project to try and i Already had all the ingredients so I figured why not give it a shot. It didnt take long to do, and the finished product works quite well.

Front:

Back:

I put some black tape around the edges just to smooth it out. Fitting the mesh into the frame of the gogles a bit tricky, but its fits well now. This is only my first attempt, and now that i have learnt from it, I'm sure next time I can make then Perfect. Its great for the Bolle 800 gogles cause you can remove the mesh and put the glass back in in a matter of seconds.

I have tested the durability of the mesh by shooting the gogles with my guns and it seems to work quite well, I am looking forward to testing them on the field soon.

Pretty dern neat looking. Your eyes would definatly be able to breath better.

Is it soft though? Like while a make an indent and have some energy absorbed or will it just bounce of? because what if it were to shatter, you just may catch a piece in the eye. Also, that'd be death getting hit by a paintball, but you probably arn't playing near P-ballers.

Interesting indeed.

Yeah i was worried about the shattering also, It wont, the Mesh is hard enough to stop the BB but still soft enough so that they wont break. when it gets hit, it just put a small dent in the Mesh, which can be easily mended by hand.

Yeah, my gun's not all that upgraded, and I've seen it shatter bbs on some surfaces. (Doubt it'd happen in a game situation, but still). I'd be afraid to get bb dust in my eyeball. Or twigs, bugs, etc.

Get some Play Doh or plasticine, smooth it out and lay behind, then shoot it repeated with your gun. See if any little shards go through to the other side and imbed.

Don't forget to try odd angles, a shearing impact might cause more shrapnel to occur then a head on impact.

I'd like to see the results as well. I dont' have fogging issues with my Bolle's, just sweat dripping down the lense and screwing it up. I use the blue & white container of anti-fog from CT, and as long as I have a headband or bandana on lowered enough to have the top of my goggles sitting on it, I never fog. Unfortunately, I don't always have a headband or bandana on.

Recall Ex_Royal buying a set of mesh goggles from the US, he & Apoc tried them out with upgraded guns, they ripped right through it. Then they cut a peice of the mesh used in the Wargo windows, fit it in and nothing would go through it at all.

I still prefer my Bolle's as they are.

I don't fog much either, but i wear glasses under my gogles and THEY fog, so i thought that a mesh might make things easier for me. I am worried about BBs breaking and hitting my eyes so I'm going to really test out the golges to see how they react.

Get some back tape and put in behind the goggles with the sticky side facing out. Then do some range firing at the goggles at different distences and angles to test the breakage. You will see the bbs debris on the tape.

Personally I won't never risk using mesh goggles I would use shooting glasses before I go mesh.

Hey Mason

Bonne chance
Joe

Updated.

I tested out the gogles using a gun at 350 FPS at close range. this is the result of 10 shots fired on the same location from close range:

SO yeah, probably not a good idea for field use, or any use for that matter. Keep in mind that the first few shots just bounced off, repeated shots will penetrate the mesh. Though it is unlikely to get hit on the same spot of the mesh at close range 10 times over, It's still too risky for me to use em on the field. so i guess it's Myth-Busted. keep you lenses guys,
