Garrison boots!
I am looking for a pair of good sturdy boots to wear once a week in mudy conditions. I am considering Garrisons (VIBRAM CANADIAN GARRISON BOOTS/9E). There is a shop by me that had them and then just the next day sold them, and they are rare to find since Canadian government says they are like a jack boot and stoped making them 18? years ago. Never the less i tracked a pair down my size, and I know there are a zillion different oppinions on what a good boot is and so on. For thoe who own or have used Garrison combat boots give me a low down on them if they are worth my money. I cant find much in the way of info on them, and have brushed up on old threads on boots. I JUST WANT AN OPPINION ON THESE BOOTS (Or something comparable for my use) I can get em for $70 cad so keep that in mind. Oh and I wont want gortex. Thanks for the view, and i know there are alot of boot threads

Hit up DAVES Surplus & Westleys Surplus. I know for sure that Daves has Garrison boots, I wanted them, but they were size 7 or 9, either way too fuckin small.

They are lightly used in VERY good condition, and yeah i am a size 9 *blush* haha. Not everyone is a standard size, and with stuff made in the orient more and more i have no problems usualy finding my size footware. Clothing can be a pain in the neck since i am "slender".

Shit boots. Hard to break in, and the leather is prone to cracking around the toe cap. Go for the older CF combat boots and get them resoled with Vibram soles, they'll last you 20 years with care and you'll never pinch your calves in the uppers.
Wait, sorry I missed this: Quote:
It was "officially" eliminated to reduce the number of uniforms members had to ship or pack when going on postings or taskings, but the unofficial reason was to cut cost on a hugely expensive program that served no real purpose. I don't know who told you it was discontinued because the boots looked like jackboots, but it's not true. They were expensive, and someone in Ottawa finally made an intelligent decision which was to let soldiers wear their combats and combat boots in garrison, so they didn't have to lug around extra uniforms and dnd didn't have to foot the bill. |

Note - to the quick eye, you may have noticed my post went from "good boot" to "shit boot". That's because I was confusing my Garrison boots with my Doc Martens, which actually out lasted my issued Garrison boots. Once I thought it through, I realised that my Garrison boots had in fact been the single most uncomfortable boots I'd ever worn, very hard on the feet and the extra-high uppers were prone to pinching the calves and leading to shinsplints.

Garrison boots were similar to the ankle boots in their construction. Stiff, uncomfortable leather, prone to cracking and being gouged by just about anything. Too much hassle to constantly reshine/repair and in general felt like wearing reinforced cardboard. Don't waste your money. You're better off getting a pair of black leather work boots from Mark's Work Wearhouse when they're on sale.

Garrison boots do Look a hell of a lot better than the CF combats. If you want a tough wearing durable comfortable boot get the CF issue combats last issue. If you want a pair of Bricks that double as urban assualt and dynamic entry tools get the Garrison boots. The other you may want to consider is a nice cross of the two the New issue CF Goretex combats. Wide foot and lace to the toe with a vibram out sole and foam mid sole. Goretex and cambrelle lined so you'll be fine putting your foot anywhere. you should be able to get them from Dave's for about $90. The thing to remeber is that all three styles of boot are Canadian made and will (even used) outlast and outproform most of the "imported models" through mass marketers. Dude, I sell pants. What did you expect?

Do NOT wear Garrison Boots in the field, they are meant to be worn in Garrison(duh) only. If you want field boots, buy a goot set of combat booths(leather or goretex), Jungle Boots, etc.
If you really hate your feet, an want to f*ck them up, than yea go ahead an wear Garrison boots in the field, in wet weather/mud. :banghead: |

Ohh I like those CF Combats! Where do i get my hands on them? I belive you are selling em, but I am a size 9 and you just get or have at the moment a few sizes? I am probably better off looking for them out here, but throw me a price i forget from your for sale thread, and those CF's are most likely spoken for since its an old thread.

I have no problem with the Mk3 Combats, I just put a set of good insoles in them and I was on my way, don't bother my feet at all, heels get a bit sore during parade, but that's to be expected with the stomping and the marching and the whatnot :P.... The Gortex ones are great, I wear them all the time when I'm not on course. Comfortable as hell, and if you can walk in snow and ice in Doc Martins you can walk in them. Though keep in mind, if it's below -10C you can get charged for wearing the Gortex.
I like my gortex because I've got the widest feet in the universe.... I've got the exact opposite problem of you man, I put my feet on the size chart, 1 size longer, 1/2 size wider and I would have had to get custom boots .... Welcome to the world of sucky sized feet. |

Um.. lmao who told said your get charged for wearing goretex boots in -10 weather?
The soles on the goretex freeze up in that weather, but you won't get charged for it. I only wear my MKIIIs in Garrison, in the field it's jungle boots, or the issue goretex boots. |

Its a toss up. Magnum Stealth Versus CF Combats. What would you chose and why? Mainly i dont plan on being in them for a week at a time just a few days of hard use. Cleaning, and repetition. I like the look of the CF's with the full leather uppers even though they dont breath as well as the Stealth's from what i can see they would be plent good for my use.
