Lightbulb I made my own Tactical Universal clip system.

So I came across THIS a while ago, and thought to myself... Man... I think I can make one of these at work. (I work in a stainless steel 2D cnc machine shop) So I programmed my own version of a similar design up in AutoCAD a couple of days ago, and finally got a chance to jump on one of the machines and got to cut it...

so far it works... I'll probably tweek it a bit, but as far as version 1.0 goes, Im pretty happy with it.

Heres a short video i made demonstrating it quickly. https://youtu.be/8e_Hhsoh8kI

I hate slings. I used to use a carabeaner and just attach my gun to my vest when I needed to go hands free. But this is great!... the bottom of the clip is attached by zip ties, this allows the back of the clip plate to be fed through molle if need be... like I said only the prototype, but its good for me...

Needs a more positive "click" or retention. Id hate to start walking and have it fall out.

Also being able to take a knee or move with it would be nice...I can see yourself getting sacked or bashing your muzzle off the ground.

Maybe if you incorporated some type of u shaped cup or something in the clip so the gun is kept somewhat stationary? Other then that its a good start.

It cant really fall out unless i jump i suppose, but even then it has to be just the right way... Theres lots of sway if im running, but i never ran with my rifles slung anyways... I suppose i could make another video of myself doing jumping jacks or something lol. Taking a knee when its on my belt, not great for the nozzle lol.... On my vest like in the video its not an issue. A clicking mech is a good idea if i was worried it would fall out, but im not worried about that, and i think that would take away from the quickness of the on/off... With a click mech i would have to pull, push, lift as opposed to just drop, lift.

The real version that i got the idea from has the same issue with the gun not being stationary. Its an alternative to slings not a replacement. So while it has drawbacks, it also has its place.

Myself, i just like the idea of a quick easy holster when i need two hands (which is rare for me) so this serves me better than slings that get all weird around my pouches and vests and stuff.

I like it, a lot.
is it just a C around the buffer tube or is it a full ring?

would you take a commission to make one of these for another member?

Yah I hate slings as well, and since we don't have halo or half life weapon sling systems, Ive been experimenting myself.

Maybe you can incorporate this hook something like this? Ive got it so that the rifle sits on my back and uses the pull of the sling since it wants to go forward against the catch and it keeps it completely in place. Even when running or jumping it doesnt move.

The only issue I have is the magazine does jut out, so if I can I eject the mag, and it can be hard to get out or into the sling if your rushed and panicky. Becomes muscle memory after a bit tho.

Maybe if you had a hook, and then incorporated a "catch" to keep the lower end in place?

First thing that popped in my mind was the issue with the cocking handle lol (real steel point of view). If the bar extended from the bottom rather than top it might work, not get in the way. Then the sway; not necessarily when running but if dragging the casualty (one of the times you'd sling your rifle) it appears to me as if the rifle would get in the way, maybe even slap the casualty around a bit, which I guess could be argued as means to keep the casualty awake. Also, I don't like the idea of something crucially important to me being secured to me by gravity alone. I could lose it by doing a couple involuntary rolls downhill. Interesting idea though. I'd like to see videos of it used in various active situations.

The knob sticks out 1" so if you ever used a rail loop latch its the same distance. Making it come out the bottom would be nice but the stock gets in the way.

Ritz its a full buffer tube sling. 1 pc. I have some ideas to improve it and then i think im going to make a bunch of them. I just have to find the time.

The limitations my diy version has is no different than the real steel versions limitations.... If your looking for something you can holster and run around, roll, or do capoeira with you might be disappointed lol. I suppose if you're someone who drags bodies at most games you could place the clip further back on your carrier for the process to be less cumbersome. Now if you're someone who occasionally wants to use 2 hands to dig into a pouch without a sling getting in the way, then, this is nice... Lol

I made my own Tactical Universal clip system.

Looks like a take on the old Motorola radio clips. Novel idea, and it's great to see you undertook to edit one yourself. I love doing that tort of thing.
I've four concerns:
I imagine that peg sticking out would be a real snag-magnet.
It might also prove fragile enough to bend or snap if impacted enough.
And, with a bit of rough & tumble, lacking a lock to hold it in place, your gun might be wooed by gravity, and joyfully leap to the unkind embrace of our dear Mother Earth.
It certainly would snag on my setup, but if the peg could be shorter, contoured to reduce snags, and a lock in place to keep it from popping out, I could see that having a very comfy home on the front of my vest.
Lastly, with slings, when you want your sidearm or whichever else, you just let go of your rifle. I can't imagine quickly and precisely remounting that to my vest in the midst of a game. But I'm not so well coordinated, lol.
Anyway, I like it a lot! I hope it serves you well.

Thanks man, i definitely had the Motorola radio clips in mind before i found out about the real steel thing. If i could make a steel version of the Motorola clip that would be ideal! But thats out of my own capabilities.... The buffer clip is made from 1/4" 316 low carbon stainless steel, i cant see it bending . The clip part is the same grade except from 16ga thick and it took a vice to bend it into place so i think the buffer tube clip should be safe from bending.

Ill have to make another video of myself moving around with it. Lol

Actually, the m4 version (from your link) indeed has it coming from the bottom. Also placing it further back goes against the idea of quick draw. It's a nice idea, but it seems to me that it works only for standing around or walking patrols. For anything beyond that, including my capoeira sessions, it would need to be secured better.

Lol for sure. For sure...

When you said bottom i for some reason thought you meant underneath lol... Yes that would be a better placement. Ill probably change it to match that lol

Myself, my sling lasts about 5 mins into a game before i get fed up with it and take it off. I run almost all my games without a sling. On ocassion i put my rifle against a wall or on the ground when i need both hands(to get into my backpack or pouch etc) i hate straps. But, i also feel like im a minority in that aspect. Everyone else i know doesnt have the same distaste for straps/slings as i do. Lol... I also dont run a pistol secondary. Tried it. Dont like the added weight. Not my style. Lol

Seen those same types of weapon clips on the colonial marines tactical vests on the 1986 Aliens movie.

Took 29 years to make it to airsoft.
