AEG suggestions for newb

I'm looking for some suggestions on Makes/Models of AEGs. (I'm posting in the Newb tank to try and limit the responses to constructive ones)

I would love an M14 or a FAL but I think they are too big/heavy for me at this time and will hold off for now.

I tried a couple metal AK's as well as a Thompson. All seemed a tad too long to properly shoulder, and all were too heavy.

I tried a G&G UMP and it fit very well, but the mags do seem a little long, but worst of all I only hear bad things about their internals.

I tried an G&G TGM A5/MP5 and that also seemed to fit well.

I can't seem to find anyone that sells the MP5K new. I think that might fit me nicely.

I don't need a metal gun.
It doesn't need to be CQB friendly as I prefer pistols for that.
Retractable stock would be nice.

Any suggestions thoughts questions and observations welcome.

G36 has amazing accuracy for long distances and folding stock for tight areas and plastic.

All AEG function the same or based on Tokyo Marui V2/V3 gear box, try a TM MP5 or a CA MP5 they can be bought cheap now, avoid the clones of clones the saying buy cheap buy twice can't be more true. you can make any AEG perform it depends on how deep is your pockets and what parts you put in. Avoid GBBR or TW platform as your first unless you have use it in the past or have some basic knowledge on them TW platform are great but the price tend to scare off a lot of newbies, GBBR are like Women on the rag if it work well DON'T TOUCH IT! some have great experiene with GBBR but most have a bitch of a time with them but they are a hoot to shoot.

Ultimately the best advice you can take is settle with the gun that meets your criteria in fit, comfort, performance etc. different opinion do matter but in the end the choice is yours.

First AEG, make it a quality M4. You can buy them in a vast variety of barrel lengths, and stock/modified configurations. The only thing that they are limited for, is the folding stock design - this is related to the real steel design where the buffer tube holding the stock is part of the firing/recoil mechanism of the rifle. Of all the rifles out there, there is a staggering amount of parts out there for M4's, to make it all your own. Magazine commonality with the most common rifle on the field, means your team-mates can pitch you a magazine should you run out in the middle of a fire-fight.

If you stick with airsoft long enough, you'll get a hankering for a second primary.. once you know enough on the field, and have tryed out other player's rifles for size and fit (most are very obliging if you ask nicely to try their shiney toy out for size) and have a better idea of where you want to go in terms of game-play - that is the time to specialize. Take note of my sig line.. i've got several that you've mentioned .. but the M4 is still my favorite 3 years on.

It all comes down to what turns your crank .. not what others would recommend.

After several rebuilds, i've come to enjoy running a short, light weight M4.

Superhog: A G36 is something I have looked at but haven't experienced yet. There do seem to be some smaller designs that might suit my need.

Wildcard: Yes I will try and not buy cheaper clones guns. I do like the MP5/MP5K. I'm also quite fond of the G3 SAS.
I will definitely be sticking with an AEG for now.

HackD: Yes, the M4 seems to be the obvious choice that I see the most of...and I don't require a folding stock...just adjustable/retractable/telescopic...whatever it's called. A nice smaller M4 might do nicely for me, yes.

The Cyma MP5SD6 is a nice affordable solution, full metal but not very heavy, has an extended inner barrel hidden by the mock suppressor and a retractable stock, perfect for outdoor

That and be sure to eat your spinach and drink your ovaltine

Well I'm a smaller guy, and even when I did go to the gym 4-5 times a week I was never very strong.

Playing an outdoor game recently really opened my eyes to how light a gun feels when you pick it up, attach it to a sling and start walking.
But after keeping it in a ready position for awhile and trying to fight through the brush a heavy metal gun gets tiring.

Doing a patrol with an MP5 or a compact M4 sounds pretty sweet.

Hell, 1 CQB game I was assigned a window to cover and having my pistol up in firing position for 3-5 minutes straight felt like pure torture.....but I digress.

I also prefer light guns. Current fav being the VFC SR-15.

If you want to go even lighter I suggest the VFC PDW.
