Age related question (not the usual...)

Greetings all.

I'm currently in the process of getting AV'd but I do have a quick question. I'm not gonna ask if I'm old enough to play; my question is am I too old?

I guess I've come to airsoft a little later than most, I'm 45. I've seen various people at one of the local airsoft stores and for the most part they seem to range from very young (obviously there with their parents) to mid 20's. Are there any other middle aged newbies out there? Am I possibly getting too old to compete? I'd love to start playing but I don't want to be a hinderance to the people I'm playing with. I'm not as fast as I was in my 20's (who is?), my reaction times are slower than Sara Palin during a Katie Cordic interview and I have bad knees from too many years of abuse in my youth (damn you hockey...).

All kidding aside, I guess I just really want to know if I might be getting myself in over my head?

I got into Airsoft at 29 so ~ 3 years ago. I have played with guys that were 14 to late 40's. you don't need to be the fastest runner, reaction time improves with practice. Wear those neoprene knee braces to support them, and get the best boots you can afford to support your ankles and go have fun. That's the main point. Have fun, socialize & don't get badly hurt

The question shouldn't be whether you are too old for airsoft, but whether you are too young to be taking up a lame-arse traditional old-man's sport like Golf.

You are only as old as you think you are.. and there are far worse ways of going about a mid-life crisis, than airsoft.

45 here as well. Started in 2011. Don't worry about your knees. I started doing this sport as a Redneck form of physio-rehab in the midst of two hip replacements. This year, i might even get to shoot my guns, more than i was hugging trees for support in the past two years.

While the median age (as i have observed) is fairly young for airsoft players in Canada.. there are older players. With airsoft gaining in popularity, you can reasonably expect that more older players will be finding their way to fields.

It's a matter of hooking up with the right group of players, and the right field .. a lot of the commercial fields do cater to the youngin's.. but there are other fields that are a little less publicized in terms of attracting that crowd - more semi-private, if you will.

Good luck!

i haven't played with anyone older then 65 personally. play the game til your walker gets in the way. Find people that you get along with and have your game style. we have a group of friends that are a full fledged team and their average age on the team was like 50......

We had a guy out that was 62. He out played most of the 18-22 guys that were there.

Its all in how you play. Be smart and play to your limits, dont push yourself and you will be fine. Most of all just have fun. That is the point after all

Played for the first time last week, l'm 34. I wouldn't worry airsoft seems to be very respectful. One of their saying is (play with honor).you'll find most players welcoming and willing to help. LOL I'm waiting for age verification also.

My girls friend's Step dad comes out and he is 54, and he can compete with the best of us. So you are never to old to play.

If you can walk, run around, crouch and crawl you are able to play. Don't worry about being the best shooter in the world, most people prefer to play with those that are honest (don't cheat) and play safe.

Cheers

I'll be 41 in a week and I've never felt younger since getting involved in airsoft.

The question is what you, as a newbie, should do for your "experienced" big brothers. Bring us lots of hamburgers and coffee and yummy stuff.

You're lucky you're in a hotspot so feel free to come out to a field and hang out with us. Bring some eye protection and you're good to go, I tend to bring to many guns with me and don't mind lending stuff out. A lot of folks are like that too, they like to share their bag of man goods.

Knowing your limits is the key. I'm 47 and have been playing for 4 years. I know how to keep myself going, but I also know when I have had enough. It needs to be fun, not an endurance race!
