Screw Sizes

Quick question:

I know most gearbox screws and grip screws are M3x.5 machine screws of various length, but I also have seen screws which appear to be of a much coarser (coarse has less threads?) variety. Which type of screw is this if I were to order more?

They are commonly found in TM gearboxes, CA grips, etc..

Depending on the brand, they can be self-tapping screws of various sizes...

But you can get a M3x0.5 tap and just clean-up the holes, then use the standard M3 screw instead. Way better on the long run, but don't forget the little drop of locktight.

Sounds good to me, I like getting rid of those crappy phillips screws in favor of torx or hex anyway..

phillips is not bad, what's bad is the pot metal they make the stock screws out of.
Talk to an industrial supplier and find "holo-krome" brand fasteners, they're REALLY tough.
And if you have to decide, go torx, by far the hardest thing to strip.

May I ask if the pistol grip retaining screws on a V2 gearbox are also M3x.5? I am in need of replacements as I stripped one of the cheap stock phillips head screws.

Thanks and cheers - Dan

i got some M3.5 from Brafasco. Only place in kingston that I could find. They are a 2mm allen key head and are incredibly strong. Fixed my wabbly grip up great.
