Modify Hybrid Barrel - hop up problems

Hey, so I just purchased the new Modify hybrid barrel. It looks great but haven't really had a chance to try it yet. It came with a hop up rubber that was quite thick and it has lines on the inside of it that match up with the ones on the end of the barrel for a better seal etc.

I put the rubber on the barrel and lined up perfectly. I then put it in my brand new King arms advanced metal hop up system. Everything seemed to fit together fine and when I went to shoot it nothing would come out. I switched rubbers to a smaller modify one that still had lines on the inside and the outcome was the same. I then switched it back to the same old hop up rubber that I had (the thinnest one out of the 3) and it worked flawlessly.

Any ideas on as to why the other rubbers wouldnt let the bb pass?

The eye where the bb goes through the rubber was probably compress a bit because of the hop up unit it self making it hard for the bb to pass through the rubber and unit. I use the modify hop up unit as well they work pretty great and you get that really fine tuning

ya thanks mike. i didn't doubt your expertise, just curious if there was anyone else had a similar problem. ill order the modify hopup and see if that fixes the problem. would really like to use the rubber it came with - 0 barrel slide.

It's because of the lip on the Modify hop up bucking. It's a bit tighter than others and stiffer. Take out the bucking and place a bb onto it. Try pushing the bb through and you'll discover that it takes more pressure to push the bb through than other buckings. If you really want to use that bucking, there are two ways to get it to work. 1) stretch the lip with a bb and quickly run a lighter around the lip. This will expand it a bit. Install it, then use silly oil to keep it slippery and run a mag through it (basically you're breaking in the bucking). 2) Mod the tappet plate so the nozzle pushes the bb in farther into the bucking. You only need to take off 0.5mm off the front of the tappet plate. And an added bonus, this will give you a much better air seal. This is what I did. Hope that helps.
