WE 1911 MEU paint strip?

Hello everyone, long time lurker. I have been looking to get into airsoft for quite a awhile now and I am likely going to buy a WE 1911 MEU Tan pistol.

My question to you smart chaps is whether or not this gun will rust if I strip the paint?

I love the design of it, but I want to use HEAVY paint/varnish remover on the tan parts, and then sand them to end up with a silver/metal polished effect.

I have heard that the WE guns are made of zinc? If anyone can provide any information on the likelihood of rust please let me know. OR if anyone has stripped a gun let me know.

Thanks a lot.

most externals of airsoft guns are made from alloys either Zinc, Aluminum or other unknown metals (monkey metals). If you strip the original finish, you won't have a problem with rust, but the metal will oxidize and turn brownish black. And depending on the metal, the oxidization might look really nasty unless you're into that.

Why would you want to do that?
No MEU are 2 tones silver and black...
It's like buying a red Ferrari, sand it and paint it pink....

Wow sarcasm problems bud

Im not wanting to re paint it, I just like the metal/silver finish.
I don't really care if MEU's are not technically silver/black. I just don't really like that the tan and the MEU is the only pistol I can get.

May be you should drop the attitude ''Bud''...

I just asked you why you would do that to a Meu...
And give a an example of what you are trying to achieve.
For a lot of people here a tan/black Meu is better than a black/silver which don't exist. Anyway you will have to redo the finish on the polished slide once a while if you go that road... as it will oxide.

Yes 2 tone 1911 (user made) look great for a couple of month... then...

Sorry man, just frustrated with what to buy online. I hear yeah when it comes to stripping a replica of the MEU, I just can't find a WW2 full metal WE 1911 on a Canadian site anywhere, of a the darker WE 1911 MEU version.

As for the stripping.. the oxidizing part would totally suck, thats what's kinda holding me back. : o (

Might I suggest getting AV'ed.

There is a wider selection of kit available if you get AV'ed.

It might also help cut back some of the "sarcasm" you get from other members

dokternik;

As Mos boz say;

If your 18+; you should think about getting age verified. Lots of 1911 in the classified.
You could also fill up you profile.

Help a lot when searching for help.

As several previous posts have already stated. It won't rust, since there's no iron or steel in there, but it will oxidize odd colors. You could possibly sand it then coat it in some sort of sealer to keep it from oxidizing.

As to your intentions to buy a WE 1911, I'd highly advise against it. WE pistols are low quality to start with and their 1911 model is especially bad. They have a high tendency to rip themselves to pieces, literally. If you're looking for a full metal 1911 at a decent price I would recommend KJW.

I was researching and apparently the MEU's do come in black as well.

The full metal one off scotia arms is likely the one im going to buy. Strip the tan and repaint flat black.

2 questions :

What is the best stuff to strip the paint with? the Circa 1850 stuff?

What company/type spray paint is the best for this? For durability and colour?

Thanks !
