Lithium Ferrite Phospate batteries ("LiFE4PO")

So I'm just doing some browsing online and there's mention of Lithium Ferrite batteries. I last heard about these new batteries around a year ago but I'm now getting interested in them again (after borrowing somone's AK with a LiPO fitted to it 2 weeks ago and then thinking about the LiFEPO batteries and how kickass they sounded when I first heard about them).

Anyways, does anyone know anything more about them and if they're good to go in airsoft? (Other than the "MadBull 9.6v LiFePO4 battery" thread from 5 months ago?) I'm thinking that if I fit one in say the top cover of an AK you could use that all day (maybe more) instead of having to replace the stick battery after half a day of use.

PS: They're supposed to be a "safer alternative" to LiPO's and it sounds like it's gaining a lot of people converting to the LiFEPO's in the RC world but what about airsoft applications?

Also note that the nominal voltage of one of these cells is 3.3V so you could go 6.6 or 9.9V which is close to the NiCD/NiMH batteries (9.6V) that some people use with their guns (although yes I know that 8.4V is standard voltage). I think that people would probably use the 6.6V just like people use 7.4V for their LiPO's (or the alternative being 11.1V).

Your thoughts on this? Also if anyone is a battery person or knows more than me don't hesitate to post up some info.

I've only gamed the SCAR so far but it ran all day with a charge and it was always an issue running on a mini. You'd get maybe an hour of life.

Next weekend I'll try the AK, and maybe slip that tri-panel into the 249 to see how it runs under pressure.

What about these 2300 mAh packs on Cheapbatterypacks? What do you think of them? Specifically that 13.5cm x 2.8cm x 2.8cm battery? I'm thinking it's a bit too wide though. Otherwise it looks like 1100 mAh might be the best one available for an AK.

Basically the idea of my project is to take a Type 56 or VFC AK and build a VSS Vintorez out of it. Ideally the battery would be kept in the top cover or possibly even have it front wired into a custom fabricated "silencer" but that would make it too front heavy possibly. Otherwise when I custom fab that "distinctive" rear stock (either that or just cheat and use a Dragunov stock)) I'll have to somehow make room for a battery to be rear wired into it.

I've been thinking of this for a while so I want to make sure every detail is perfect/correct before I start to invest too heavily in a project that people keep talking about doing but never materializes. (I'm 100% determined to make this no matter what the cost, even if I have to piece it together over a few years).

Also just an aside, I know that the RS stuff is pretty good running stock but what about upgrades? I'll probably be wanting to make this into an actual sniper rifle/DMR so accuracy/consistency upgrades probably seem like a must (but I'll have to see how it performs first). I could probably dump another $200 or so into upgrading the parts since this is basically my "dream gun" (that is aside from getting a Trigger Master that locks it to semi only w/ delay (to make it like a sniper rifle) or safe-semi-semi (no delay) to make it more like a DMR).

I'm currently using both of the Intellect Life batteries and I can honestly say that I'm sold on them. I thought moving up from a 9.6V NiMh wouldn't have been that much of a ROF gain but the LIFE batteries with the extra .3v makes an insane difference.

I've gamed them both in my M4 and Mp5 with full stocks as I was looking to gain some space after installing the ASCU on both. I did have to knock out the tabs in the stock to fit both the stick LIFE and ASCU but if you don't run a mosfet or any type of a controller, it should fit fine, or just get the tri-panel version.

I have a little problem fitting the stick into my AK spetsnaz but I will figure it out by the next game.

I find batteries are a bit of a risky item that it's worth buying in country. They won't get seized but if you come up with a DOA one then it's a less of a hassle.

The stick I got is too big to fit in the gas tube so it has to go fully under the dust cover, it's as tight as you'd want I think.

Plus Duy talked to me about some of the fit issues of the various sizes, charger specs, and other little details. The only downer was them not coming pre-wired for Deans from the factory.

One other detail about these batteries is they're much lighter. The stick is 30 grams less and the tri-panel is 80 lighter. That's a pretty noticeable improvement.

Yeah, I gotta try and squeeze it under the cover as I have no stock nor does it have much of a gas tube as it's the shorty.



my temporary solution will be to make a battery bag and let the wire run out the side. I might be able to modify the battery tray to hold the intellect but I'd have to have the motivation to do it.

Not pre-wired to deans sucks a bit but it takes me all of maybe 30 seconds to prep and solder in a connector. (which reminds me, I need to restock on deans connectors again)
