AUG Parts and Help
Okay, So I bought a CA AUG A1 and want to get some upgrades for it.
The first thing is I heard that CA Hop-ups aren't the best. So I read the review on this link: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...&highlight=aug and they said they changed that little tube that's made or vinyl or something like that to make it more stiff... anyone know what exactly? Also that little rubber tube the barrel sits in, mines a bit damaged. Is it called the air/ sealing nozzle? Also I want to put in a longer and tighter inner barrel. I've heard that a Prometheus barrel is one of the best? Would this be a good choice? http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol..._A2_VN_AUG.htm Because I want a longer inner barrel I would need to get a suppressor. What size would be a decent one be? Also, because I cannot order that from outside Canada, my only option is to find a retailer in Canada, correct? Or is it possible to get a longer outer barrel to compensate? I want to be able use .28 bbs effectively, but want to keep my fps up, so that means I need a new spring? Which one would be best to get my fps around the average everyone else shoots at? I'm not sure what's my fps is now, but the whole gun should be bone stock. With that being said I don't suppose I need to also upgrade some of the other internals as well? Like a stronger motor, which then means stronger gears and batteries? Finally, what are the good brands that you would recommend? And the best places to get them? Thanks for your help. |

Why are you spending so much money when you don't need to?
Throwing a bunch of money at it when it works perfectly fine (or in your case you just want a longer inner barrel, spring and maybe bearing spring guide) is dumb. |

I thought that if I was going to put in a 120 spring, that the other internals should be upgraded or they could break, but if I can get away with the barrel and spring and guide only, that would be a lot better.

Try using something like the Modify FTK for the Aug.
That should give you everything necessary for upgrading. You've got a spring, spring guide, compression parts, bushings. Should be good to go. Also it might be worth getting a new set of gears, maybe the Modify Modular Gearset (no shimming required!). Finally, have you played with it yet? You should really do that first to see if it's good enough. Kind of like in programming, if you have a function that may be slightly inefficient why waste time making it more efficient when it gets completed in a reasonable amount of time so you can work on unit testing?

I have, and it doesn't seem to preform as well as I expected. The hop-up packing or w/e is damaged, maybe even destroyed, so that's defiantly has to be replaced. Should I use a soft or hard type for the hop-up?

Just get yourself a good mini battery (Elite or Intellect 1500mah or so) or set your gun up to use a battery bag with a large battery on the outside of your gun. |

I have to agree with Styrak. You only really need to replace stuff in mechboxes if they are broken. Most people replace parts because they come with plastic internals. But from what ive seen, they do hold up. CA internals have metal bushings and cylinder head. All you need is a stronger spring and maybe a spring guide. It also takes a while for a motor to die (around 3 seasons of play for me).
As for the hopup unit, im not sure if the CA Augs use the plastic unit the Tm ones do but they can break. If you take your barrel assembly out a lot (which i do for storage), i would suggest getting the GP metal hopup unit. Dont get the PDC one, the airseal on it isn't great. The TM ones have a bad case of misfeeding, but the CA ones are much better. But it still isn't great since its jsut the way the hopup unit is designed. It is very easy to mess up the hopup unit when installing the barrel. You should take a look for any damage to it. Fully disassemble the unit and see if the hopup rubber is ripped or damage somehow. If it isn't, assemble it again and give it a try. I find if im missfeeding, i can usually fix it by rebuilding the hopup. As for hopup rubber, use Hard Type. As for inner barrels, I think Prometheus are the best but they are expensive. However since madbull release the V2 tight bores, there really isn't a need go anywhere else. They are half as much and a 1/3rd the weight. I makes me sad i spend so much on my inner barrels (but madbulls making barrels yet). You can stick with the stock length of 509mm. Its still one of the longest AEG barrels out there. It will improve grouping if you went with a 590mm barrel but it wont help your aim.

The Hop-up unit is plastic, and it looks cheap. There are 590mm barrels for the AUG? I've been only able to find 550mm as the biggest. Also where abouts should I go to get some of this stuff. I'd like to try and get it all at one place but Redwolf doesn't have everything.

590mm is PSG-1 length, look for that. I had one in my AUG (because it had an extended outer barrel, custom made) and no you won't need a boreup kit for that length.

Ah, so I would just use the PSG-1 barrel, straight right? SO then now I just need to find a retailer who can sell me a mock suppressor.

be careful when changing the hop-up unit, sometimes you get a better performance with the original plastic one.I'd buy a metal unit and use it only when the stock one gets old.
also if it's a CA your spring guide should be metal already.

Is the thread on the AUG muzzle 14mm CCW? I don't have a pitch gauge.

Most guns are CCW, or negative, yes.

Okay, So now final question... I hope, is... Is the a difference between a tapered spring and a normal spring? Besides be skinnier on the ends and fatter in the middle.
