Best thing to do is to get AV'd if you can so you'll have access to ASC classifieds were you can find full black evil guns from a variety of company's(TM,CA, RS etc), also a good thing to do is to go out to a local game and try out some gear and guns to know what you like.
EDIT: Get a AEG as your first gun not a sniper this isn't like COD lol

There are plenty of places to get guns, however, I would highly suggest getting Age Verified first. There are countless of FAQs that I would highly suggest you read. You will be spending money in this sport so doing a little background research is not such a bad idea.

Also, as most of the FAQs suggest, an airsoft sniper rifle is not for people who are just starting off or for their first gun. It's just not practical. You can ALMOST get the same range, consistency, and accuracy with an AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) with minimal upgrades. For a sniper rifle, you will need to put a LOT more money into it to have it on par or more accurate/consistent/etc than an AEG.

Plus, if you want to use sniper rifles that shoot faster, farther, etc, you need to attend sniper clinics and be certified to use certain bolt action rifles.

I can see the attraction towards sniper rifles for a newbie because I too started airsofting not too long ago (Probably a week or so ago). However, I would highly suggest an AEG.

I am not familiar with airsoft.

What my question is, does the element of surprise work on a typical airsoft match?

wait until you're 18, and get age verified. We do not condone minors playing with airsoft.

Sure you could be mature, but it's not an issue of maturity, it's an issue of legal responsibility.

1. We don't use padding in airsoft, maybe kneepads but that's it
2. No matter how mature you are, you are still underaged. Airsoftis an adult activity. The mature thing to do is to wait until you turn 18.

Well, the thing is, being only 17, you can't be AV'd. Most of the online retailers are all part of this community. Seeing that you are not age verified, they will most likely turn you down. Also, retailers and the Canadian Post people will probably ask for a piece of government issued ID to verify your age.

My suggestion, wait until your 18.

However, yes, some games allow you to play if you're 16, but that is only if a parent is playing as well.

Talk to some of the game hosts, if you are lucky they might let you play or maybe just stop by and talk with some of the local folk.

Much easier talking with people in well, person

Airsoft can be terribly expensive, don't look at this as a year to wait. Look at it as an opportunity to learn about the sport, read reviews and above all save money for your chosen kit.

Heck airsoft by proxy can suck, but at least when you can come to the table you will be armed with an approximation of what to expect and a reasonable understanding as to the rules.

As far as i know, paintball is also 18+ but you can get your parents/guardians permission by getting them to sign a wavier...I could be wrong. It's been acouple years since the last time i played it.

Yes, it is. Since airsoft is more "underground," there are a bunch of liabilities and stuff that go along with it. Plus, you have almost exact replicas of real firearms to top it off.

Airsoft does cost a LOT of money. You might just think the gun is expensive but so is the gear!
