half compressed piston after shooting semi-auto, is that normal?

Hi, I recently openned my Version 2 gearbox to install a new wiring kit, and I noticed that after putting it back together, when I shoot semi-auto, after a full cycle, the piston gets locked about halfway back..... but the gun can still shoot normally, without any problem, but I was just wondering if that was normal?

No that's not normal. It should be decompressing almost fully after a semi shot.

do you know how it could be fixed?

BTW : by saying almost fully decompressed, does that mean that the tappet plate should be completely forward when you look down the feeding area? after each shot on smei?

If you're using a 9.6 large battery (or equivalent) there may be too much power for the cut off lever to activate before the gears have enough time to half cock the gun. This isn't necessarily a "problem" with your mechbox, but rather a kink in the setup you're using. Try shooting with a weaker battery (8.4 mini or 8.4 large) and see where your piston lands. Otherwise it could be a sticky cutoff lever. Just my thoughts.

Yes, that is normal if you are using a battery that is fairly strong such as 9.6v or higher. The same problem always happens with Lipos.

Shelled pants has nailed this problem, do what he says

hope that helps

Yeah, it can even get worse. I get 2 shot burst when I use my 10.8V 5000mAh... lol.

If my AEG is gun's running under 350 FPS and I use my 8.4 4700 battery I get 3 shot burst

Real-sword motors have an INSANE amount of torque.

It's totally normal, I call it cycle overlap
Your gears maintain momentum and can pull the piston back by themselves, this is especially apparent with larger batteries or heavy prometheus gears. Infact if you get a powerful enough battery, or charge your battery right to its limit, you can get 4 shot burst on semi!
My own M4 gets about 1.3 cycles on a semi shot
The only time I found this to be a nuisance is on the trigger master, it takes that 1.3 cycles on semi and puts that exact current through the motor for semi, but on 3 shot burst it'll put around 3 times that power through so you'll often start out with a 4 or 5 shot burst. Not like it's a big deal you just reduce the burst length
And since we're on the subject, theres also burst overlap, in which each burst is more than 3 cycles (like 3.2), so every 5th burst you'd get a 4 shot burst. Again, also solved by reducing burst length.

Probably Elite. Which makes them even more powerful, lol.

He is correct lol. I don't run full auto with it though, semi only. And will be installing home made mosfet system so as to not rape the switch assembly (which it already has lol).

It is dirty though. I get more than 20 BB/s on full auto, with an M120.

Edit: using a crappy motor at that. I plan on buying a guarder infinite torque up, or if I feel like spending more, a Magnum.

Seriously, i have an elite 10.8v 1500mah 2/3A cell and it's very powerful (best battery i've ever bought btw). I though elite only made batteries up to 4500mah but maybe there's some new SC cell i haven't heard of.
"Oh you are having trouble with your battery? That's a shame.....I've only had to charge mine once"

To answer the original question, yes it is normal. I'm not sure if this is ok or not so maybe somebody else can verify, but you can just barely tap the trigger and get it to go forward into the full forward position. I do it sometimes.
