Repeated gear stripping. Sorbo?
So I've got a TF Mp5. Before I even gamed it we upgraded the spring and installed a sorbo with the intent of upgrading the gears when the time required it. So after approximately 8-10k rounds the gear that the motor directly meshes too stripped a crap load of teeth with seemingly no warning. I was not surprised as I had pumped a lot through this poor little thing and was essentially waiting for it's death. So after it died we went ahead replaced the stripped gear with a JG gear. We shimmed it nicely and it seemingly functioned well. It fired outstandingly until it's early demise of similar fashion during a game after only shooting approximately 150 rounds. So, My questions are as follows:

What kind of spring?
Who shimmed it? How do you know it was done well? Perhaps the mechbox shell is out of spec, so the gears don't align properly? Motor height set too high/low? Crap quality gears, both TF and JG?

The only way the SORBO would be responsable for this type of damage is if you installed it directly over the original cylinder head pad (ie, did not remove the original), or the SORBO pad comes detatched from the cylinder head and ends up doubling over onto it's self. Otherwise, look else where for the cause.
As posted above, the details of the upgrade are required in order to properly assist you solve this problem. FPS of the spring, type of gears, type of piston, etc... SHA DO

Other then the spring and sorbo no other upgrades were made, I don't have a chrono but it went both sides of a popcan and was almost getting the bottom. that's all the info I can give, It's not motor adjustment issue I don't think. Are JG gears known for being bad? I expected the TF one to break but not for the JG one to break even sooner. The mechbox being out of spec is ofcourse possible with a clone but makes me think I'd hit a problem earlier wouldn't I?
Also thanks Sha Do, Yea the sorbo was installed properly I just heard of people taking the last tooth off of their piston and stuff when installing one and thought maybe it had something to do with the gears. Thanks for being patient everyone. Also me and another local airsofter did the upgrade, Jamesbond_007 he's pretty much the closest thing to a gun doc on the island.

really sounds like a poor shimming job to me. I would suggest getting it reshimmed by a gun doc.

The only thing that a poorly installed sorbo pad will do is strip your piston...
So unless you've got a full metal tooth piston, your gears stripping are unrelated to the sorbo pad. |

I'm not sending it off the island for a Shim job I can do myself. When it was quickly repaired it was like 5am the day of the game and we hadn't slept yet, so it's probable that we did bad with the shims but could it really destroy a gear in like 150 or less rounds?

I hate to say this but this is definitely a shimming problem, drink Redbull and try again =). If you have any doubts, shim looser than tighter(But not too loose). Hope that helps |

Yup, just follow some instructions on mechbox.com and you should be fine.
good luck |

Another thing of note;
If you are running a stock piston (ie, plastic) and an upgraded spring, you will quickly strip the piston teeth....the higher the spring upgrade, the faster this will occur). If you are running a polymer (ploycarbinate or simular) piston the same thing will happen, but at a much slower rate. The best thing to do would be to install an upgraded piston (however, this increases the amount of stress that your mech box takes in the front end, and will eventually result in the front end cracking off). Welcome to the world of mech box tech night mares....it's a viscous circle. Good luck bro; SHA DO
