v3 Gearbox Woes

Ok, so have a couple new problems... I've managed to strip a mad bull polycarb piston because the stock gears hit it too quickly with a mad bull m110 spring in there, and can't pull it back.... so I've put the original spring and piston back...

I looked at the spring guide before I ordered and Mad Bull wasn't on there... so does anyone know about where the Mad Bull M110 spring falls on the spring chart? and if I'm going to need torque up gears to pull it? (figuring yes, just want to confirm)

Was thinking of getting the PP System hard piston and torque up gear kit from airsoft parts... anyone have any experience with PP system pistons/gears?


on another note, has anyone tried installing the modify spring kit? I found the reversal latch spring, while being stronger, doesn't fit properly. It's the right size, but because it's stronger, the gauge of the wire is thicker, and the whole thing therefore takes up more room. So now the little cylinder where the latch sits, on the left half of the gearbox, presses the spring into the side of the latch when the gearbox is closed and screwed shut.... hence causing the latch to move out when the lobe passes it, but not back in afterwards... it's binding the spring.... should i grind down the cylinder slightly? I've put the original spring back in for the moment, and it's working fine...but I'd feel more at ease with the stronger latch spring in there...

What brand of mechbox is it, and what size of battery are you using?

The PP torque up system is a very nice set of gears and piston, i recently installed one of these in my team mates G&p M4, with a M130 spring. The gears have a wider contact area and the teeth have a deeper grove in them, so they mesh way better than stock ones, im very happy with how they perform and sound, will definately use these in my next M4 build up....

I'm liking the gear set...it's running smooth as butter in my most recent build. The axels were really tight in systema 7mm bearings. I have yet to rebuild it with Modify 7mm metal bushings...that'll be next time.

The PP hard piston is hard. It's probably the 11.1v LiPo and/or the Guarder Infinite Torque Up motor in this build...but I'm on my 2nd PP piston getting things working just right. I was messing around with the Sorbo MASK piston and cylinder heads with the first piston...and I had some mechbox issues...so I'm not sure what caused the damage to the piston rack. The second shows a couple of chips on the teeth, but nothing major...now with a regular piston head and cylinder head.

I've shot a lot of test rounds through it...probably 2-3 full day games worth.

After a couple of more games I'll tear it down and check it out again.

i'm pretty sure it's just the stock TM mechbox, and i'm using a normal 8.4v mini, either a 1400 or 1600 mAh... and I also have a 1400 9.6, but it's a really really tight fit

sounds good, it should arrive tomorrow, but i'm not sure if i want to install the m110.... is it similar to the king arms m110? i'm assuming it won't do any damage to the stock piston and spring... but will cycle slower?

I would upgrade your gears and bushings for a stock TM mechbox.

A m110 spring isn't really that strong at all (400-415 FPS). Stock JG and CA mechboxes can pull it easily with stock non-torque up gears.

already did bushings, gears on the way.... new piston too... but since the stock gears shredded a polycarb piston with the m110, i'm a bit wary of putting the m110 back in without higher torque gears

Yeah, sorry I don't have any experience with TM gears. In V3 mechboxes I have had stock JG, CA gears and both have pulled m130 springs.

It might be the gears slipping, putting the force on the wrong piston tooth causing the entire assembly to shoot forward and strip. Could be the cylinder and piston wasn't lined up properly with the piston guides.

was definitely on the right tooth, because only the first engaged tooth was shredded.... but since it's not there anymore, the gears wont engage the piston.... it should be fine, i have a pp system hard piston/torque up gearset arriving tomorrow, and it should have no issues with the m110
