MP5 Feeding problems?

Hello all,

I have a new G&G PM5A5 (the CAS plastic one). It seems to have a small feeding problem. It seems that I have to hold the clip into the receiver for it to feed properly. It does this for the mag that it came with (metal Hi-cap) as well as the mags at Xtreme Tactics. I have tried putting a layer of electric tape on the top of the mag, and it didn't solve the problem. I wanted to get a front grip for my gun, but it would be useless if i have to hold my clip up into the gun.

Could it just be the mags I am using? I don't want to go spend $30-$40 on a metal TM if it still wont work...

Thanks.

Sounds a bit like your mag catch is either worn down, or not installed correctly. Either that, or they're really low quality magazines (which I doubt).

Chances are if you're getting the same issue with different mags, the problem is with the gun. It could be a misalignment of the hopup, gearbox, or possibly the mag catch as suggested.

If holding the magazine allows it to fire properly, it couldn't be a misalignment of the hopup or gearbox, because the magazine feeds properly if held in which means that the hopup and gearbox are seated in the correct position. Therefore, if he can get it to feed properly, the magazine should lock into the magwell (because there's limited space for a magazine to move around in). My mind and money are on the magazine catch.

Yeah, the mag catch would be my first guess too.

Thanks for the quick replies. So I should take it apart and put it back together and see how it goes from there?

k, I took it apart and it definitely seems to be the mag catch. Looking closely, I can just pull the clip out without releasing it. Is there any way I can get a stronger spring for the mag catch? Does anyone sell them specific for airsoft, or should I just check out my local hobby store?

True enough. You may have to be pushing the mag up into the magwell in order to really force the feed lip out of the way and have a direct, unimpeded feed of BBs into the hop up unit. Give it a try (little bit of plastic at a time), and see if it slowly gets better. If it does, keep going until it works just right. Otherwise, stop and don't shave too much off because if its not the issue and you shave too much, you may ruin the mag.
