Front Wired/Rear Wired Gearboxes?

Hi, I have a front wired gearbox, and I was just wondering if I brought it to a gun doctor, would they be able to rear wire it?

(I'm not asking about the gun doctor's skill, I'm just wondering if it is possible.)

you can, but you need to change the switch assembly to a rear-wired like this

I'm assuming that you're referring to a M4 type rifle? If so, it's quite simple but does involve getting right into the mechbox to reroute the wires.

Because of the way that it's routed differently between front and rear (the wires take a different path through the mechbox) you battery wires will end up different lengths and depending on what kind of rear stock setup you're going for (i.e. full stock vs. collapsible stock) the wire lengths may not work.

If you can solder wire, it's far easier and cleaner to just remove the existing wire and replace it with new wire.

The actual switch assembly is the same.

If you're referring to an MP5 it's usually very easy, with no internal mechbox work. Same with AK's.

Best of luck,

Tys

actually aren't some wires long enough to be bent back? after being bent back out of the rear wire hole thingy, cut a bit off of the black cable so the red and black are even, and connect a new mini or large or deans connector which will cost like 3 bucks, instead of 30.

Yup...they're long enough to be bent back...but they're lengths will be uneven. You will have to put a new connector on. Even still...if you're going for a collapsible stock, you may find that front-wired-rerouted wires are too short.

A new connector costs a couple of bucks. Motor connectors cost a couple of cents. Same with shrink wrap.

The small tamiya connectors that typically come on AEGs are not very good for upgraded setups. The pins are usually just crimped on...they should be soldered as well.

Yeah solder the tip of the exposed wire to the middle bit of the pin. Soldering gun for 14.99 at the source, and 14ga wire for 5.
