UHF Radio + weather radio
I have a Kenwood Tk-370 and after some of the latest big storms, my fiance asked me if I could tune into enviroment canadas weather radio alerts.
http://www.msc-smc.ec.gc.ca/msb/weat...ct_sheet_e.cfm now the site says I need to tune into freq 162.550 MHz. Quote:

Leave CTCSS off. It only matters if the transmitting station is using it, which EC is not.
Just punch in the freq and away you go. |

ok. I did that and I get a beep beep beep beep....and so on.
and I leave the 1. Option Signal Off 1 = DTMF 2 = 2-Tone Any idea what i put here? 2. PTT ID On Off Any idea what i put here? 3. Add/ Del Any idea what i put here? 4. Busy Tx Any idea what i put here? 5. Clock frequency shift Any idea what i put here? all as they are. |

DTMF is used for telephone signalling. Not applicable here.
PTT ID is used to transmit a code to authenticate your station. Also not applicable, since the EV weather channel is public. The rest of those settings, I can't explain. They're radio specific I think. Are you sure this channel is actually broadcasting anything other than the beep? Have you tried other weather channels? Literally, for my TH-G71a, I just punch in the frequency and it's done. You only have to program it if you need to recall it, but if you remember the frequency, just punch it in any time you're ready. Did you try punching in the frequency outside of the program mode? |

You may have to punch "VFO" or something similar.

Sorry to tell you but the Kenwood 370 is a UHF only transceiver.
Droc, you are getting the beep as an error message because you are trying to set the radio outside of its frequency range. MM is able to get the weather because his is a dual-band rig. His oscillators are set up for both VHF and UHF.
