Film on external metal parts

After playing a rain game last semester my AK got a bunch of filmy substance on it [barrel and parts of the receiver] and i'm not sure how to approach getting rid of it.

CLR maybe? Or will that take off the paint?

Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Found a pic:

And yes, I know it's hurtin'.

Looks like something that might have leached out of the metal. Take a small spot and try out some solutions. Don't know if it may hep but we use to remove salt stains from our boots with viniger. It's a mild acid that should clean it but not strong enough to remove paint or metal.
Good luck

Vinegar works on salt because salt is a base, whereas vinegar is an acid. The combination of the two neutralizes the pH levels of each other and makes the final compound as neutral as water.

Using an acid-based cleaner such as vinegar may cause further corrosion if that film is not a base.

CLR may work if it is lime, but like vinegar, it may not be good on the monkey metal used on airsoft guns.

Your best bet is to try a tiny bit of each cleaner on small inconspicuous areas, see how well it cleans and leave it for a couple of days to see any longer term effects.

And as usual, try water too. If it cleans it up, dry your gun well and wipe the gun down with a rag that has some silicon oil in it.
