AK side mount on body

I am getting into the AK game after a long time of working with M4s and my SCAR and am grabbing a VFC AK74 on Friday from a fellow airsofter.

Fucking mint gun (I know because I have seen it in action), however the one thing missing that I would like is a side mount on the receiver for the multitude of side mount rail sets that sit above the receiver. I want to be clear, I am referring to the actual piece that is attached to the left side of the receiver that these rails sets mount to.

My question is to add one of these pieces to my receiver, how much modding is actually required to do so? I ultimately want to use a KOBRA; the model of 74 I am buying has a beautiful wood kit and while I could get a tac-set for it and add one of the few T-1s I have kicking around to the top of the fore end I would prefer not to as I want to keep the wood kit on it.

I know CYMA, DBOYs, etc sell the mounting bracket or whatever you would call it to mount to the receiver, however I am just unsure what is required to do so.

Or you can just put the mount on the receiver while comparing it to a pic of real deal, drill, tap holes and screw matching screws in it after applying red thread-lock. Had this done to my RPK receiver at local hobby shop more than 10 years ago to hold PSO 1, still holding.

Depends on the receiver too, I did this on a Kingarms reciever for my RPK and the aluminum was too soft to hold the screws. So the plate is held on by PL premium with the screws being decorative.

This PL'ed optic plate holds my 3 pound NSPU. It also holds the whole weight of the loaded RPK when I carry it by the NSPU :P .
