I have a mesh mask almost similar to the one above. I found i had too many damn straps around my head so i cut it down to only cover my general mouth area, removing the straps in the process and it stays in place by using a Condor multiwrap. Works great for me

I have one of those masks pictured but I did not like how it felt when I put on my goggles and when I tried to look down the sights of my airgun. So I decided to make it better by doing the following:
-I put my goggles over the mask and used a marker to draw the outline of the parts of the goggle that fall on the mask and press against my face. -I also used the marker to outline lower corners of the mask that were getting in the way of a comfortable look down my airgun sights. -Then I removed the elastic/canvas type rim off of the mask. It is glued on and with a dull knife, some heat and patience it can be removed. -Afterwads I removed all of the glue that was on the mesh section of the mask and cut the mesh along the borders I had drawn with markers. Now I am at the stage of sewing back on the elastic/canvas rim back on (instead of glueing it back on). As for the button type things (I don't my parts that well) that connect the strap to the mask, I was told that those can be purchased at most hardware stores. I will just need to make holes for them which shouldn't be difficult. If this doesn't turn out like I want it then I'm going to Canadian Tire or Home Depot and forking over $50 for one those respirator masks (not the paper like ones) that just cover the nose and mouth. Maybe remove the filters and put in a few small holes in it for better ventilation.
