How to tell if modifications will work with my gun.

Hi guys. Today I bought a JG MOD5. I really like it and I got it with the idea of modifying it externally with a suppressor, aimpoint, light, and other fancy things. However, I have been slightly worried as I look through these modifications. The gun has a 14MM - threading, does that mean I need to get a 14MM + threaded suppressor or a 14MM - suppressor? I also see that some say 14MM counter clockwise or clockwise, what exactly does this mean? I have an aimpoint base that is 30MM, but most aimpoints I find do not show what size they are, how can I tell if they will fit my mount? I know the basics with rails, 20mm is standard but how can I tell if a light/laser/grip will fit? Also, the gun shoots at 390FPS with .25gbbs, but the arena I go to has a 350FPS limit and they use .20gbbs. Will a lighter bb bring down my fps or push it up? If I need to change out my springs to achieve 350FPS, how can I do that? If anyone lives near Etobicoke that would like to meet up and hangout/show me some stuff with airsoft modding I'd be really greatful.

counter clockwise means you turn it left to tighten.

clockwise is you turn it right (standard threading for nuts and bolts/screws is this righty tighty lefty loosey)

14+ is 14mm clockwise
14- is 14mm counter clockwise.

You need to match what your gun is... so fi your gun is 14- you need a suppressor with 14- threading.

30mm on the aimpoint I believe refers to the diameber of the lense aperature most tube red dots are 30mm unless you go micro sights.

20mm rails are a standard width. I think there is 11mm as well but that's for pistols.


if you are shooting 390 with .25s you are already over the limit for every public field and event in ontario. You need a spring swap to bring it down to 400 using .2s (or roughly an impact of 1.5 joules) Using lighter ammo will result in a higher speed. To get under 350 you'll need an even weaker spring. So you have to decide if you want to get a spring that puts you under 350 with .2s or change the spring so it's under 400 for outdoor use. If you choose 400, you can't use that gun indoors until you swap the spring to a weaker one. Just put in an m90 and be done with it, indoors and out and not worry about fps if you have to ask all these questions.

Eventually you'll learn a bit more and decide what to do then.

imo, external accessories are not mods. You're dressing up your gun, not making it shoot better.

A spring swap is a mod. There's plenty of info all around to show you/teach you how to do a spring swap, if after your research you are not comfortable doing it yourself, contact a gun doc and have it done for a fee.

Ah cool, thank you very much . I have one more question. The gun has threading, but it is covered by an orange flashhider that is glued in, is it safe to snap or pull the flash hider out or will it damage the threading?

there are various ways to get the flashider off... if it's plastic, a heatgun and pliers is enough to get it off usually, though I would start from the least destructive method first. Vicegrips on the flashhider and elbow grease.. could try submerging that portion of the gun in boiling water to soften the glue... sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't...

Do some reading on how to remove them before you try anything.

14mm- is the same as 14mm counter clockwise.
14mm+ is the same as 14mm clockwise.
A 14mm- barrel is the most common threading in airsoft. A 14mm- suppressor or flash hider fits a 14mm- barrel and vice versa. Most suppressors are able to fit both + & - threads.

A lighter bb will increase your FPS, it requires less energy than a heavier bb to get them to the same speed. Using bb weight to change your FPS is not an acceptable way to meet the FPS limit, that's why you're required to crony with a .20g bb. You need to change the main spring (to a weaker spring) inside your mechbox to get it shooting with less energy. An M90 should get you down below 350 FPS. If you're not comfortable changing the spring on your own find a gundoc on ASC to do it for you. Often times your retailer can change your spring for you, or if the arena you're talking about is Ultimate Airsoft I believe they have spring changing services there.

He's right, not a big deal IMO but the section you posted in, is the "for sale" section. It's where people post things they have for sale, not to look for things they want to buy... for that, post in the wanted section.
