DIY: Improving Gas Efficiency on a KSC Glock

***NOTE: THIS MOD IS ONLY FOR A FULLY FUNCTIONING PISTOL WITH POOR GAS EFFICIENCY. IF EVERYTHING IN YOUR GUN IS IN WORKING CONDITION (NOT BROKEN) AND YOU'RE EXPERIENCING SOME GAS COMPRESSION ISSUES, THIS MAY HELP YOU. OTHERWISE, IF YOU HAVENT CHECKED THAT NOTHING IS BROKEN, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU DO THAT RIGHT NOW BEFORE READING ON!!!!!!!!!!***

Hello all.

Recently, I have noticed that there have been a quite a rise in the number of ASC members suffering from gas compression issues on their GBBP. It's getting colder.

While this article is optimized for a KSC Glock, this method of solving the problem can easily be applied to any GBB pistol.

Though I have written this guide to help ASC members (hopefully), I first and foremost recommend that the pistol be looked at by a reputable gun tech. I can't guarantee that this method will work for everyone simply because there may be other factors that is causing a diminished performance in your GBB pistol. Instead, I advise you to attempt this solution as a last resort.

Before you start, use a chronograph to get the average FPS of your gun prior to this mod. Then chrony it after. There should be a little increase in FPS if you do it right.

For the purposes of this demonstration, I have used a KSC Glock 19 with a PRIME metal slide to illustrate the points.

So let's begin shimming your BBU....

Objective:

Our objective here is to bring the loading muzzle as close to the gas route packing (the rubber packing with the rectangular whole in which gas escapes from the magazine) as possible. What this will do is direct the air into the loading muzzle.

The Modification:

Method 1: The Best ONE
Material needed:

1). A piece of Rubber band
2). A pair of scissors

Step 1:
Take your BBU of the slide.

Step 2:
Cut your rubberband with your scissors.

Step 3:
Cut pieces of your rubberband so that it fits this area/ridge/slot (whatever you want to call it). Refer to pic.

After

Put about two pieces in there make sure they are as flat as possible. You need this to be evenly spaced.

Step 4:
Once satisfied, rebuild your slide and test.
Make sure that you don't put too much. To make sure you don't over do it, keep trying on your BBU and tightening the rear screw. If in tightened mode and the BBU is raised too much, the BBU will block the rails and prevent the slide from racking.

It will look like this with too much packing:

Adding too much will also bring your nozzle too close to the magazine causing wear and jams.

So keep testing !!!

Step 5:
Enjoy!!!

Method 2: Easier method
***NOTE THAT THOUGH THIS MAY SEEM EASIER TO PERFORM, IT'S MUCH MORE HARDER TO GET THE RIGHT AMOUNT***

Material:
1) Duct tape
2) Scissors

***NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A HOLLOW BBH, DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE. INSTEAD, USE SOMETHING THAT IS LESS MALEABLE LIKE A PIECE OF A COKE CAN.***

STEP 1:
Take you BBU out of the slide

STEP 2:
Measure and cut about 2 or 3 pieces of duct tape and layer them one on top of the other.

STEP 3:
Apply the tape on top of the BBH. Make sure you apply *** ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OF THE BBH***. failure to do so causes the BBH to tip upwards in the front when you tighten the rear screw.

STEP 4:
Rebuild the slide and test

***NOTE: TOO MUCH CAN CAUSE THE SAME ISSUES AS DESCRIBED ABOVE***
***NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING A COKE CAN, AFFIX IT TO THE SLIDE NOT THE BBH
***

STEP 5:
ENJOY!!!!

Why is this modification needed:

There are two main reasons why this modification may be useful for your GBB pistol.

The first is to better the gas conservation/efficiency of your pistol in that it will prevent gas from dispersing before it reaches the loading muzzle.

Instead, it will minimize the distance gas has to travel from the magazine to loading muzzle.

The second is to provide you with a cheap way of maximizing or fixing the performance of your gun.

For example, you won't need to buy a new Mag catch if your magazine isn't being seated properly (unless you really want to). All you need is a rubber band or duct tape.

Effects of the modification:

If you do this right, you should notice a bit of a stronger kick to your gun. This is because the BBU is now operating under proficient amount of gas to create the strong "blowback".

This method also fixes many issues that arise from the lack of gas efficiency on the gun.

Specifically, on KSC Glocks, the lack of gas output results in:
1) A semi-auto gun shoots in full auto-

-the hammer block on the BBU is too far from the hammer and thus can't get enough push to get the hammer lock to the sear

2) the gun drains the gas reservoir in one trigger pull

-In some cases, this happens because there isn't enough blowback to set the hammer down and thus leaves the valve knocker pressed against the blowoff valve.

3) low FPS output-

-the muzzle doesn't have enough air to funnel towards the BB.

...and the list can go on.

While these problems may be the result of some other issue, it is important to note that they can stem from the loss of gas compression.

The Negative Effects of this Modification:

There is really only one major issue that I've come across in my tests: wearing.

If you put too much on, the loading muzzle can eat away the softer rubber gas route packing on your magazine. If there is a jam in your gun, you put too much.

A minor characteristic that my tests revealed is that because of the increased compression in the loading muzzle, the piston head/cup tends to break sooner than later. My KSC G19 did this a lot. lol.

Closing remarks:

I hope this helps at least 1 person. lol.
If you want to go the opposite way and shim your magazine instead, you can buy something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airsoft-Lase...item20c21358af

An ASC member brought this to my attention the other day and I find this actually pretty neat. I haven't used it but it has the same idea as the mod in this thread.

anyways, good luck friends! Hope that helped.
