i used to own a revolver, and the manual said ALWAYS USE UP ALL THE CO2, and NEVER leave the Co2 cartridge in gun because it will cause leaks... And i decided to leave a cartridge in, and a week later, it was leaking..... i would assume they want you to use up all the gas because Co2 is at a lot higher pressure and would cause to wear out/ stretch the o-ring.
I have owned a couple revolvers, and the one i ALWAYS used all the gas before storing away, and i never had a problem with it. Been 5 years and there isnt a single leak, havent even had to clean it.
I agree with not removing a half-full canister, but NEVER leave gas in it when storing...
