Question 407- 500 fps rule clarification/verification request

Hello, I am new to this forum. could someone please reply with a link to actual canadian law regarding the 407-500 fps range in which an airsoft gun is classified as an air gun as opposed to a replica? Does anyone have any experience using this law? What "proof" of fps is needed to prove a gun's fps to customs agents/ border guards?

Thank you for what assistance you are able to give me. I understand that i am not age verified, so I understand if you cannot answer all of my questions.

You should hit up the FAQ and rules yourself.

@Mach that info is in the age restricted zone, forum rules say we cannot talk about sales or importing outside of that area.

Not entirely. There is plenty of info regarding the subject, and even I - un-age-verified have been able to read it.

If anyone is willing to search this forum for any information regarding Airsoft, I recommend actually using a Google trick, rather than the built in vBulletin search function.

in Google type:

site:airsoftcanada.com SEARCH_QUERY

No space between site: and website, and of course SEARCH_QUERY with keywords that will help point to what you want to know.
This will return google style results, searching only within Airsoftcanada.com 's forums.
Google's search engine has a relevancy system, where vBulletin(atleast from what I can tell by trying to use it) does not. Provides much much better search results.

Example: site:airsoftcanada.com TM GLOCK 18
Different, more specific keywords help you find anything. (anything PUBLIC, that is.)

How did I break any rules? I didn't flame. I didn't do anything improper. There are literally hundreds of threads EXACTLY like this, many of which contain posts telling the OP to use the search function. It's there for a reason. Four threads down from this actually contains both an answer (later), and someone telling the OP to use the search function.

Trade in imitation firearms is not prohibited, so clear guns are fine as they are obviously not real guns.

anything that shoots a projectile with sufficient force to cause bodily harm is a firearm , this has been tested and been found to be a .22 gram projectile moving at 407 FPS. An object that is a firearm can not be a replica.

But in order for a firearm to be subject to regulation it must fire a projectile at over 500 FPS and in excess of 5.7 joules of muzzle energy.

Therefore an object that fires a .20 g projectile in excess of 430 FPS is a firearm, and can't be a replica regardless of what it looks like , but is not subject to regulations governing Firearms, such as licensing. it is a "unregulated firearm" These items, so called "all black airsoft guns" are available to persons who are age verified to be in excess of 18 years if age through retailers who advertise on this site.

There's your spoon fed answer.

To fully answer the OP's question: Don't import. Support your local Canadian businesses.

Yes there may be some info in public view but that doesn't change the rules.

LastProvidence this is the newbie tank and that means no "Google it" replies, so what if the other children are doing it? that just makes them as wrong as you and if you look at two of the 4 threads under this one look at the banned guy he's banned because he posted this info got an infraction for it then whined about it.

Guys, a guy was banned for revealing too much info,
all we're going to say is this has been discussed so many times, use a search button (you need Av'ed to find the result you want. The info can be found under the "Restricted Age of Majority Discussion" section

Well, I went and found the full information about trying to exploit this ruling.

apparently Google searching skills is by population ratio - is a superhuman trait.

I am not going to link it, out of respect however it should be noted that the 407-500 fps classification is by no means fool proof. this is the pinky toe wedged in the door frame letting SOME things through.
(it will be a while for most GBBs - I think)

Ill leave this alone now with the highlight of the explanation (why its still risky, and should leave the hassle with the retailers.)

Quote:
This is still not a bullet-proof method of importation, as enforcement and interpretation of the laws are subject to the individual officer actually inspecting a particular vehicle or package. Many officers may not actually be adequately informed of all the latest minor legal changes to the laws

Honestly I can't undertand why this haven't been put up that way more often to newcomer instead of the usual "don't import". Saying why it's just not worth it might be more helpful no?

the problem is, its still hit or miss. So if we say yah go ahead and use "bla bla bla" way of importing and the gun gets seized it could come back on us. Also ASC has a firm stand against minors owning airsoft guns. Its slowly changing with the wider availability in canada but the general feeling is we would rather not have some Rtard fuck it up. This has been a long long process to get to this point and we really are walking on egg shells.
