Need help deciding on an AEG

I've been looking at getting my first airsoft gun which I really only want to try out with little skirmishes
With my friends + target practice, but have come to a crossroads. I really want to get the Tokyo Marui MP5K MP5K but it is a little bit out of my price range $50 including the silencer (don't want to piss off the neighbors ) , charger, battery and Other stuff (BB's, bb-speed loader, BB Bottle etc.)

However I have also seen other MP5K knock offs such as This one looks good and This One

My question to you is, are any of those guns good, and if not where could I get a cheap ( possibly second hand TM MP5K)

Also I really only want an MP5K because
I like the small size of it, but don't want an AEP.

Thanks,
Matt

You'll need to fill out your location so we can help you better.

If you're from canada, then be aware that you cannot purchase from retailers overseas, they must be bought from canadian retailers, or else they will be seized at the border, and you'll be blacklisted.

A suppressor does not work in airsoft like it does it real life, or at least nowhere near the same. Suppressors in airsoft depending on their make, will dampen the sounds a little bit, but not enough to make a huge difference.

Depending on the area you're in and their by-laws, it is illegal for you to discharge any type of firearm or airgun. Shooting around in the backyard may not be the best course of action.

The TM mp5k is good out of the box, I cannot vouch for the other two. I believe Schwag managed to make a galaxy mp5 a monster, however he is a very good gunsmith and knows what he's doing. I'd personally go with the TM, buying cheap means buying twice, and TM is good quality stuff.

Please keep in mind the prices you see on international retailers are not what you'd find in canada, so finding a "cheap" mp5k may be impossible. We also cannot advise you on where to get one until you've proven yourself to be 18. You can read up on Age Verification in the FAQ's, which will give you access to Airsoft Canada's classifieds section which opens up a huge avenue for airsoft in canada.

So please fill out your information a bit more, and take some time to go through the FAQ's on age verification, importation laws, and prices of airsoft in canada. By reading through these, you'll be able to ask more specific questions and get good answers.

Enjoy your stay.

If you can't afford a TM from overseas... then you might not be able to afford a clone once it get's into Canada.

Also, if there's a chance of pissing off the neighbours then it's not a good idea to be discharging any airgun or firearm. I assume you live in the city. If so like 99% of the cities will have a bylaw stating something along the lines of it being a bylaw violation to be discharging airguns within city limits except for areas zoned for such activities, fines could range from $50 to even $500.

As well, most of the noise actually comes from the motor and gearbox, the suppressor will slightly silence the report from the barrel but then 80% of the noise is still coming from the motor and gearbox.

PS: If you want target practise then the Anschutz is totally the gun for you but it might be a bit pricey. Daisy, Winchester, Beeman, Gamo, and the like also offer great .177 target rifles that are so much cheaper and way more accurate.

Check the link in my sig for Canada prices.

You can't order from an out of country source if you are in Canada.

Please don't shoot in your backyard.

First of all I want to thank you guys for warning me about buying from overseas as I don't want to be out $250 nevermind be on some blacklist that would follow me for the rest of my life.

So I won't order it from overseas or get a supressor. Afterlooking at local laws, it is legal to fire in my backyard if I have a 6 foot fence (which I have). But just to be safe I have seen some pretty quiet AEP's like the TM H&K USP so as I do not plan on entering games until I get better I think it would be a good alternative

Also I have looked up on getting verified but I diddnt see anybody in the west side of toronto.

Also I haven't seen and Canadian stores ( I have looked at about 10) that carry TM products. Are they illegal in Canada, because if so I might be able to get one when I go to the states.

Send a message via MSN to The Thrill
Please don't try to bring one over the border from the States! You'll get yourself in just as much trouble as if you were trying to import from Asia. You can get TMs in Canada, the best place to get them is probably from the classifieds. To view those you'll need to get AV'd. There are several verifiers in Toronto, just send them all polite messages asking if there's a place you can meet them. If you have a car it shouldn't be too much of an issue for you to drive to them or to an event where you can meet up with one of them. The AVers are volunteers so please understand if they're busy and take a little time getting to you.

List of AVers

Alright I won't do that either.

I will ask a few verifiers after my d@m car gets out of the repair shop or I get a non-crap car ( unlikely)

the GTA has about the highest population of Age Verifiers out of anywhere else in canada, It shouldn't be too difficult to track one down. If you're in mississauga, visit Army Issue on lakeshore, Jeroon there is an age verifier and he's got plenty of nice goodies to look at as well.

As for going to the states and buying a TM.... While it is not overseas, its not in the country of Canada. You MUST purchase from inside the country to avoid any possibility of confiscation and blacklisting.

Please take a little more time to look through the FAQ's. TM is not illegal, nor is any airsoft weapon. They are however illegal to import without proper licenses (don't bother asking where to get a license, it's not something they give out easily and it costs two metric fucktonnes of money)

If you've done the proper research and found that you are allowed to discharge in your backyard if you have a 6 foot fence, that doesn't stop the wandering eyes of a neighbour who see you holding a gun in your backyard, then calling the police. Treat it like a real weapon, keep in inside, out of sight, and only bring it with you to games.

AEP's are a cheap solution, but you won't find yourself very satisfied with the results. Take my suggestion, save your money. Look in the events section of the forums to find a local game, ask the host if you can attend to observe. Most people are more than happy to let you hold their gun to see if its what you like, and maybe even let you use it once or twice. Try handling a few different things before you set your mind on what you want to buy. You'll never know if you'll like it for sure until you've tested it out.

basically, you cannot -import- any gun or prohibited items (receivers and silencers being just two examples).

I really do suggest you read, read, read and, wait for it, read some more. That's all I did for the first 4-5 months I've been registered (and AVed) here (count 1-2 months of lurking).

Pretty much all you need to know is here, more often then not, I stumble upon ASC while googling for info on guns, gear, etc. It's pretty amazing/funny. Go out to a game, even if it is just to watch. Ask questions to the people at games, if you're nice enough you usually get your answer and maybe a bit of the good ol' touchy-feely with some of the players' guns

Like daiviet said, even if it's legal to do so according to the bylaws I would probably not do it, or at least be VERY VERY careful. You should also think about the general political affiliation/platform that your neighbours have.

I think it would probably be fine if you were shooting like an air gun that's obviously for target shooting (ie. Anschutz or Daisy) ideally with an appropriate backstop and "pellet catch" but if your neighbour saw you shooting an M4 in your backyard they would probably think you were going on a rampage with that "military grade sniper assault rifle machine gun kitten puppy and baby killing grenade launcher with HEAT and radiation tipped JHP bullets that are totally against the Hague Conventions".

I totally live in a pretty west side area of Vancouver myself with a lot of "stroller moms" and "hippies".

just to add my two cents to this old thread, silencers are LEGAL!! if you read memorandum 19-13-2. i have personally imported silencers, in which the order was searched/cleared by customs along with a trademarked tm pgc g18c slide, and AABB conversion kits (for glock & 1911). so... basically the only thing you CANT import are receivers.

I call Bollocks on that. You might have been able to have it clear customs, but you can't guarantee that someone else will have the same luck you've had.

As mentioned in countless and countless threads on this forums, if you've even bothered to read them, it's usually at the mercy of the CBSA inspector. Of course you're not age verified so I doubt you have access to those threads anyway.

Cheers,
