Night Vision tricks
As a lot of you know the new Call of Duty Limited addition (Prestige) comes witha cheapo pair of working NVG's, and from what some say, they wont be much good past 20 feet or so. Also there are a few Civvie versions like the Eye-Clops as well.
Anyhoo, I was thinking that since these things work on Infrared light, that they might actually be worth using at night games if you had a bunch of those Infrared Glow sticks. Idea being that they would light up a certain area in Infrared and thus, your cool-as-shit-eyeclops goggles would pick it up. Anyone used or have experience using Infrared glowsticks with NVG's? (CF members most likely). Im wondering how much "Light" those glowsticks would actually emit. Alternatley, an infrared "spotlight" greater then the L.E.D.s on the goggles themselves might work too. Just a thought. Feel free to flame away ![]() |

the problem with IR Based Nightvision is anyone with them can see you like you are holding a flashlight.

True. But seeing as most people at this point don't play with NVG's at all, at least over here, You'd be getting away with it for a little while at least. Assuming it worked of course.

They could also see you through a digital camera or even a cellphone that takes pictures.

Really....? Sounds dubious to me. I've never seen a cell phone with that capability. Besides...the people using a camera or cellphone would be spotted by the display backlighting before someone with a pair of active NVG's....never mind ruining their natural nightvision.

Pretty much any device with a digital camera is sensitive to infrared light.

Digital camcorders and such I've heard of (seeing infrared), but they only see a certain spectrum within infrared....and cellphones? Im gonna check that out tonight with the remote LOL!
Outside of that spectrum (assuming the cheapo goggles see those different spectrums) you'd be safe from dudes with cameras..No? Besides, if no-one knows you got goggles..... ; ) |

just spend a little more money and get a low quality gen 1 nvg which is WAY better than those super cheapo ones

Actually, I've always wondered if Gen 1 was worth the coin. After a recent night game with the guys I play with...NVG's are must. Their light discipline is TERRIBLE!! LOL!!
Thats kinda the reason for starting this thread. |

I've always found getting your eyes good and dark adapted and using averted vision and scanning in slow figure 8 patterns without the use of any optics works quite well

Depends which Gen 1 you buy, civilian Gen 1 or military Gen 1? Big difference in the two, military Gen 1 is excellent to use and is very useful in outdoor night airsoft games.

I actually just cut my Eye clops night vison up lol the amount of extra plastic is redonkulous, Im molding it to my own model and casing, Your probably gonna need some more IR illuminators though theres enough on it for cqb but after that good luck.
