Loud Screech

Hey,

I have a TM type 89 and there is something wrong with the gearbox. Whenever i pull the trigger there is a loud screech. Does that mean the gearbox is jammed and if so what do I do? I know the motor is fine because I have pulled it out and its working.

Thanks

Could be a couple of things...(from not-so bad to worse):
1. Motor height - the motor may have dropped a bit and is not engaging the bevel gear. In the center of the grip cap there is a little allen key screw...turn that in to move the motor up a bit. Obviously, your grip cap has to be securely screwed back on first...

2. Piston jam - in some instances, the piston may be stuck all the way back. Rare. Most common after a spring/spring guide/piston body swap. The sector gear is just barely clearing the last tooth of the piston...making the noise. Disassemble (sucker, because the Type 89 is fiddly to work on).

3. Piston strip - the teeth on the piston may be stripped off enough that the sector gear can't catch it. Replace piston...see disassembly comment

4. Gear strip - Teeth have broken off one or more of your gears. That's bad. Disassemble...no comment necessary, you're in for some work.

Hope it's #1...

Dunno how reliable those mechanical burst systems are; just check that as well.

The little lever arm with the nub that "counts" the shots is delicate. My buddy's broke (what a tiny piece of pot metal!) and now it's just FA only until I figure out how to make a better piece.
