Reducing FPS on a SOCOM Gear x Gemtech Oasis

I guess as this is my first post I should introduce myself, I am 20 years old male living in Christchurch New Zealand, I am completing my electrical engineering degree this year and have played airsoft for the last 3 years.

Now for my question, I have just brought a SOCOM Gear x Gemtech Oasis (http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...tech_Oasis.htm). Redwolf says it shoots at 420FPS but the most people suggest 390FPS is closer to the truth. I want to lower the FPS down to 320-350FPS. I have looked around for information, and what I found focus’ on AEG’s or the use of different gasses. I use propane in my other guns, and do not realy want to use another type of gas.

Any solutions would be much appreciated.

It's a gas gun...

Reverend, there's no other reliable way other than using another gas, like duster.

There are 2 options.

1. Use duster gas, (tetraflouroethane only)which will reduce it to 300-308fps on .2's from 398-405fps on propane. (yes I have one and confirmed it)

2. Modify the hammer spring in the take down lever. Our though on this is that a lighter hammer hit on the valve may cut down the amount of gas used. BUT, this is only speculative. You would need to punch the pin to remove the spring then cut it or replace it with a lesser strength spring.

I'm hesitant to cut the spring as on duster it's CQB safe (unless we're playing big boy rules) and on propane, it's outdoor safe.

I have done a review on it in a private bunker but might be able to post it soon.

Thanks all, I will have a look at cutting the hammer spring down over the weekend. I cannot easily get 134a in New Zealand, so it is not really an option.

If you cut down the hammer spring, your valve knocker may not have enough force to depress the gas release valve.

If you shorten the barrel length you will reduce the velocity

Before you go diving into cutting that down, get a spare spring, and look into shorter inner barrels.

Sorry to bump this but I've found relevant information on this topic. Rather than opening a new topic,

if a flow restricting valve were made, i wonder how many people would want one.

if i could get a hold of a valve, i may be able to design and make a restricted flow version.

Mod or build a new knocker valve? It would do the trick and be reliable and as consistent as possible with the system it uses. It'd be a PITA to make more than one for me...but on a cnc lathe not too bad.

I haven't pull a valve from those mags...but I have a couple of mags. If you want to borrow one to mock up dimensions etc...you're welcome to it.

I wanted to make a longer inner for it, the inner is pretty short as it is. Maybe mod/improve the hopup as well. Winter projects....

The hopup in the KJW system was always a sore spot. It uses the set screw and the housing used to be made of plastic. You could order a metal one years ago but they became super scarce. Outside of that I dont recall anything else being able to be done really. One of those with a TM style hopup for a vsr/hicapa would rock.

well Jay was kind enough to lend me his Oasis for a bit to see if i can work out a solution to reduce the FPS.
i have found two ways to do it and am doing some tests to see which method if not both work best for constancy.
so far, i have been able to get the Oasis shooting down around 260 FPS. I'm aiming at making it fire no more than 340-345 FPS. already with it shooting 260, it has become really quiet.
tomorrow i should have time to nail this down and start making parts.
