Temperature for AEGs

I know we joke about it a lot, but at what temperature do AEGs actually incur damage? I couldn't find it through the search function. I'm wondering if I should bother with electric or gas guns for outdoor games in the next few months.

Gas guns below 10degrees are useless.

AEGs become brittle at around 20 below in many cases.

I've always found that for an AEG it's @-15 to @+15 (where you can effeicently use gas). I have a KWA KM4A1 for these temps when I can't play my WE...

Well, it's 3 degrees here right now, so I guess that means leave the pistol at home? AEGs can go up to -20? Then there's nothing to worry about this year.

They may not become damaged but they may not work well either. Last March at the Mill my aeg seized. Apparently the gearbox "shrank" a bit because of the cold. Once it warmed up a bit it worked fine. Batteries will not last very long in the cold however.

No...That's just because you built it!

We use -5 and cloudy as our minimum. I find somewhere between -5 and -10 your hopup rubber gets cold enough to frequently cause jams. It's the jam caused by the cold hop rubber that incurs the most damage above -10.

If it's -5 and the sun is out, you'll be sweating your balls off and you shouldn't have any AEG problems.

-10 is the maximum that I would suggest for an AEG. Anything colder, the gun will be to sluggish to use. And like TC said, your hop up becomes useless at that temperature.

Before we got a great indoor facility we played in any weather. V2 boxes would usually break below minus 10. Hand warmers on the battery guaranteed kept the ROF high or just running a long line in the sleeve and have the battery in the jacket.

V3 we never had any issues at all. The coldest we played was -35 and the guns ran great. As mentioned before it's the hop-up rubber that you need to worry about as long as your aren't running a V2 box. Hop-up off and we had some really great times in the winter.

Pics are from the -35 game.

-35, that's amazing. The last couple games I've been to have averaged around -5 to -7 and have mostly been okay. I even saw some gas pistols being fired successfully, though I have no idea what the performance was like.

The most frequently reported issue of the day was misfeeds and hopup issues. Not a single gun in my collection or on my team managed to get through without at least some very minor feeding and/or hopup issues, but it didn't ruin our day.

Sweet. So it's really a V2 problem? No problem, then.

Damn, people need to suck it up and run more winter games.
Playing in the snow is awesome.
