AEG like a BA? Delima(kind of)...

Hey everyone!!!...

Lately I've been getting an itch for sniper rifles... But I can't see myself using a BA... So the solution I came up with is to upgrade my M16 into... wait for it... A long range rifle!...

My other AEG is based lean towards ROF, max out with everything I know! I sacrifice my accuracy and spread to achieve this(I know I don't have to, but I'm saving money). Now I'm going to create one that's totally opposite!

I'll give up ROF and my cheapness for long range(not necessarily more FPS but the limit here is 425fps for AEG) tight-grouping and reliability on each bb's flightpath..

My base model is ICS M16 with modify upgrades with a S110 spring(also modify). Not the best, but it's what I got.

I'm not too sure where to go after these upgrades:

6.03 tightbore
better hopup bucking/rubber

Any advise, comment, or just anything you want to toss my way please do, I'm here to learn as well!

PS: let's hope this project won't screw me over like my last ICS attempt.

FYI: A modded m16 to a "sniper-ish" platform is called a SPR = Special Purpose Rifle

For the internal upgrades, I would suggest you to get a better quality internals, so that your shots would be really consistent.... (essential thing on a sniper rifle... )

I would even suggest you to go with a 6.01mm tightbore(for maximum consistency/precision) + high quality ammo :P

Better hopup is a good thing to upgrade, since you will want a near perfect airseal

If you want a recommendation for an inner barrel. I recommend Prometheus barrels, they only come in 6.03 but its definitely all you need and want in barrel. Paired with a Prometheus hopup unit you will have a great start to a SPR plat form.

Gah!... 6.01?!... That's tight!

What is a higher qualilty internal? Modify is standard, and I heard that systema is a decent upgrade, but the not best. I would like to keep the split gearbox ics offers.

Now I know SPR, but I would like to use full auto for those "intense" moments which SPR doesn't have. Dont get me wrong, I use semi almost all the time, but when your firing a bit out of your effective zone, it's nice to have full auto.

Also which brand suplies good hop up rubbers? Also, other than ICS, is there other brand of hop up unit that is better?

Old systema parts used to be fantastic new systema parts are not known to be so great these days.

Prometheus makes some fantastic quality parts for all your internal needs.

As far as hopup units go I think ICS has their own style hopup unit so I am not sure if a standard hopup unit would be compatible. However you should be able to user whatever rubbers freely. I personally use a guarder clear but my M4 only fires as 380fps 0.2g. Perhaps a Prometheus rubber.

Quick question(doing my shopping list here)

Which is a better quality internal(like gears, piston, etc.)?

Modify or Guarder?

OR do you recommend Prometheus?

I've had nothing but good experiences with everything modify and highly recommend their internals. (I've installed them in multiple guns including 2 VERY heavily used guns that run rock solid)

We usually call them DMR's (Designated Marksmen Rifles)

SR-25
SVD
SVU
C7CT
HBAR-T
M21
SG1
M14 Mod 0

There is a huge list!

Unless the OP is going to specifically build the Mark 12 SPR....

same, ive built a high ROF 370 FPS mechbox with almost entirely modify parts, and it's a beast, I have never had any issue with modify internals

The US Army uses the SDM-R, the USMC uses the SAM-R, then you have the MSSR (Marine Scout Sniper Rifle), then you have the C7CT, etc. All are modded M16's (ok except the C7CT which is a modded C7 )

The Mark 12 is the only M16 called an SPR, and even then it's still under the classification of a DMR

Drache is right. Sniperish platform would be a more correct blanket term than spr though DMR is the correct one.

Yup, I'd definitely recommend Prometheus.

What my question is, does the element of surprise work on a typical airsoft match?

Any idea if the Prometheus would be able to take ICS's split gearbox function?

PS: Does anyone have any experience with KJW M700 gas sniper rifle? Or any gas sniper rifle in general? I have a few question about some Gas BA.
